New Applicant Tracking System for Job Postings

We have moved to a new applicant tracking system (Open Hire) for all Augsburg job postings. This includes all Augsburg job opportunities including staff, student, and faculty positions. The Augsburg website for employment listings will bring anyone looking for a position to our new career site.

When you go to the Augsburg HR site (http://www.augsburg.edu/hr/) there is a single link for employment listings which will bring you to the Augsburg Career page. Under the Employment Listings tab, you will be able to select the specific type of position (staff, faculty, or student).

This system has several benefits over the previous system:
1. Hiring managers use their existing Augnet log-in to sign in to the system. No additional log-in or password is required.
2. Open Hire allows us to move toward a paperless approval process for requisitions.
3. Hiring managers can work with HR to set up questions in the job posting to screen out non-qualified candidates by screening for educational background, specific work history, and work schedule.
4. It allows for easier communication with candidates and search committee members right through the system.
5. It is easier for candidates to apply as the system populates their address and work history from their resume, which results in a faster, streamlined process.
6. It has integrated social media capabilities for job postings on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

We are excited about the new system and the opportunity to make the process easier for both applicants and hiring managers. Please contact HR with any questions.

Auggies Named All-MIAC in Softball

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2011/5/20/soft052011.aspx?path=softball

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College shortstop Jessa Hinz (SR, Richfield, Minn.) was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball squad, while outfielder Laura Strandell (SR, Pine Island, Minn.) earned All-MIAC honorable-mention recognition, the conference announced this week.

In addition, Augsburg catcher Brittney Bruzek (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

For Hinz, it was the second straight year she has earned All-MIAC honors. Both Hinz and Strandell have earned Academic All-MIAC honors each of the last two seasons, and Bruzek was an All-MIAC honorable-mention recipient last season.

Augsburg's leadoff hitter, Hinz had the best hitting year of her career in 2011, hitting .357 (45-of-126) -- tops among team regulars -- with 29 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, five home runs, 21 RBI, six stolen bases, a .579 slugging percentage, and a .467 on-base percentage. Her 24 walks this season were second-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, while her five home runs were tied for 11th-best in the MIAC.

Her 126 at-bats were eighth-most in a single season in school history, while her five home runs were tied for the third-most and her 24 walks were fifth-most.

A four-year starter (156 starts in 157 career games), Hinz finished her career hitting .311 (142-of-456). She finishes her Auggie career in the school's top-10 list in several career categories -- first in walks (68), eighth in hits (142), fifth in runs scored (98), seventh in doubles (25), second in home runs (11), fifth in RBI (71) and eighth in slugging percentage (.456). She also had four career triples, 25 stolen bases and a .404 on-base percentage in her career.

Strandell also had the best year of her career in 2011, hitting .345 (39-of-113) with eight doubles, two triples, a team-high-tying five home runs, 25 runs scored, a team-best 24 runs batted in, a team-best .584 slugging percentage, .419 on-base percentage and seven stolen bases. Her 15 extra-base hits this season tied for the team's high. Her five home runs tied her with Hinz for third-most in a single season in school history, while her 66 total bases were tied for 10th-most.

In her Auggie career (135 games, 127 starts), Strandell finished with a .251 batting average (89-for-354) with 19 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 49 RBI, 53 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, a .384 slugging percentage and .346 on-base percentage. Her six career home runs are tied for fourth-most in school history.

A history and social studies secondary education major with a 3.88 grade-point average, Strandell was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District squad as a first-team recipient last week.

Bruzek was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of play.

This season, Bruzek hit .229 (16-of-70) with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple and 10 RBI. Defensively, Bruzek threw out 10 runners trying to steal bases in 35 attempts -- tied with three others for tops among MIAC catchers in overall statistics.

In her three seasons at Augsburg after playing her first year at St. Thomas, Bruzek hit .264 (62-of-235), with 26 runs scored, 15 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 55 RBI, a .413 slugging percentage and .353 on-base percentage. Her six home runs are tied for fourth-most in Augsburg's career record list.

Under fifth-year head coach Tim Gormley, Augsburg finished the 2011 season with a 20-20 record, 9-13 in MIAC play.

Three Auggies Named Academic All-District

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2011/5/20/gen052011.aspx

MINNEAPOLIS -- Three Augsburg College student-athletes were named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District College Division Men's At-Large teams, it was announced on Thursday.

Augsburg wrestler Tony Valek (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn./Scott West) was named to the 10-member first team, while men's hockey players Jim Jensen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) and Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) were named to the 14-member second team. It is the first Capital One Academic All-District honor for each student-athlete.

Valek earned All-American honors for the second time in his career at the NCAA Division III National Championships in March with a second-place finish for the second straight year at 149 pounds, part of Augsburg's second-place national team finish at the championships in La Crosse, Wis. Valek qualified for the national tournament for the third straight year in 2011.

Valek earned the tournament's award for most pins in least time, with three pins in 11:30 in the tournament. He finished his junior season at 37-6 and is 102-24 in his career.

An accounting major with a 3.94 grade-point average, Valek also earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-America honors for the second straight year, part of an Augsburg squad that finished fifth nationally in the Division III Scholar Team Award race with a 3.4947 team grade-point average.

The academic honor caps a career season for Sauer, a men's hockey forward who was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association/Reebok Hockey Division III All-America Team as a second-team West Region honoree in March. He was also named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference squad for the second straight year, after earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2009. Sauer is an accounting/finance major with a 3.78 grade-point average.

Sauer finished the 2010-11 season as the MIAC's scoring champion, leading the league in overall points (39) and points in conference games-only (24). Sauer tied for the league lead in overall assists (25) and was fourth in overall goals (14), while in league play, he stood third in assists (15) and fifth in goals (9).

Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Sauer finished 12th in points per-game (1.50) and 12th in assists per-game (0.96). He had a goal or assist in 23 of Augsburg's 26 games this season, including a late-season streak of 10 games in a row. In 100 career games, Sauer finished with 52 goals and 57 assists for 109 career points.

A men's hockey forward, Jensen earned a spot on the All-MIAC honorable-mention squad for the second time in his career. He is an accounting/finance major with a 3.84 grade-point average.

Jensen collected 25 points in his senior season (eight goals, 17 assists), ranking 12th among MIAC players in overall points and 12th in overall assists. He ranked 17th in points in conference games-only (15) and 13th in conference-only assists (10).

Jensen played 103 games in his Auggie career, with 35 goals and 58 assists for 93 career points. He had a goal or assist in 18 of his 26 games played this season.

The Capital One Academic All-District team is part of the Capital One Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The men's at-large team covers student-athletes in 12 sports -- fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-District team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The Academic All-America men's at-large team will be announced on June 7.
