Change to Classroom Trash and Recycling Procedure

Starting fall semester, all trash and recycling receptacles will be removed from classrooms and some meeting rooms throughout campus. Larger containers will be located in strategic hallway or central locations to make the disposal of refuse as easy as possible. Centralizing trash and recycling containers will make recycling and waste disposal more efficient and cost effective here at Augsburg College. Please place your trash and recycling in the appropriate containers at the trash/recycling station nearest to your classroom or meeting room on the way out of the building.

The initiative is being implemented by Custodial Services and Facilities Management in the hopes that it will increase consciousness of the recycling program and prevent commingling of trash and recyclable materials. This practice has been successful at other colleges like University of Minnesota in Bemidji and also at Macalester College.

Please take care to place items in the correct receptacle (for information on what can be recycled, visit http://www.augsburg.edu/green/rrr.html). Thank you for your cooperation and contribution to Augsburg's efforts to promote green practices.

Auditions for Fall Play

Fall Main Stage Theater Auditions, September 13 - 14

Casting: 5 – 6 female roles; 6-7 male roles

The Augsburg Theater Arts Department will hold auditions for its fall main stage production, The Learned Ladies, by Molière, directed by Martha Johnson. Auditions will be held in the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, Foss Center, Monday, September 13 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. and Tuesday, September 14 from 3:30 – 6:00. An audition sign-up sheet will be posted on the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater door in the Atrium of the Foss Center.

All Augsburg students are welcome to audition! Copies of the play The Learned Ladies have been placed on reserve in the library under Martha Johnson’s name. Audition monologues are located and at the Theater department desk in Foss Center, and they are also available in the Theater Arts Department public folder on Augnet. Please choose and carefully prepare 2 monologues from those provided. It is recommended that you read the entire play in order to have a sense of the tone of the piece and the nature of the characters.

Call-back auditions will be held Wednesday, September 15, from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. Rehearsals will begin September 20, and performance dates are November 5 – 14.

Description of The Learned Ladies:

The great comic genius Molière wrote The Learned Ladies in 1672, a year before his death, and it is considered one of his mature masterpieces. In this play a family is thrown into disarray when the mother becomes fixated on an intellectual charlatan. The play evolves into a hilarious portrayal of the intellectual perversions sometimes seen in the world of academia (and elsewhere), when genuine quest for knowledge is replaced by pseudo-intellectuality, pretention, inflated self-importance, and power-mongering. “This sophisticated satire sparkles with wit, ridicules hypocrisy and…reveals that human folly has not diminished during the past three hundred years.”

Over the summer, the laundry rooms in Urness, Mortensen, Anderson, and Luther halls all received a fresh paint job. There was also new furniture purchased for the laundry rooms in Urness and Mort, and new washers and driers were installed in all of the laundry rooms to accommodate our new free laundry program! Any soap may be used in these machines, but high efficiency detergent works best. Please do your part to help keep our new laundry rooms looking new!

Underwear: Not Just for Superheroes

Approximately 650 youth are homeless every night in Minnesota--10,000-20,000 a year! Some of the most basic needs that we may overlook can mean so much to a youth who goes without. Underwear and bras are among those basic necessities.

Augsburg College can make a difference. The Women's Resource Center is trying to fill up the Auntie's Closet rack with undergarments to benefit an event in October called Youth Connect. Youth Connect works to connect youth with resources that can empower them through their every day struggles. Any new underwear, new boxers, new briefs, or gently used bras could go to someone in need.

If you are unsure where to buy undies, there are several shopping opportunities right on the Light rail: one stop away on Lake Street, or at the Mall of America, and of course, any of your favorite shopping stores. People come in all shapes and sizes, so consider donating garments that you would wear yourself. A donation box will be located at the Welcome Desk in Christensen Center for the month of September.

For more information on how you can get involved, email Veronica at bergv@augsburg.edu

Look for Augsburg's own Superheroes on campus during September!

Brumm Named MIAC Player of the Week

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/9/7/fb090710.aspx?path=football

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College quarterback Marcus Brumm (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Auggies' 62-10 season-opening win over Concordia-Wisconsin, it was announced on Monday.

In Saturday's win, Brumm was a part of six of Augsburg's seven touchdowns in the 62-10 triumph -- the second-most points scored in a game in Augsburg football history. Brumm threw for a career-high five touchdowns and rushed for another in the win, completing 27-of-34 passes with no interceptions for a career-best 373 yards. His .794 completion percentage (27-of-34) was also a career-high.

Brumm connected on touchdown passes of 22, 37, 8, 15 and 10 yards. Brumm completed 15 of his last 16 pass attempts to give the Auggies a 55-3 lead when he left the game in the third quarter.

The performance was Brumm's fifth 300-plus-yard passing performance in his 11 career starts. He now has 2,891 yards and 18 touchdowns as an Auggie on 247-of-470 passing (.526).

Augsburg hosts Martin Luther College in another nonconference contest this Saturday (9/11) at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg has its first four games of the season at Edor Nelson Field.
