Great Colleges to Work for Survey Update

As you know, Augsburg College participated in the Chronicle of Higher Education's 2010 Great Colleges to Work For survey in April of this year. While our results were not published in the Chronicle this week, we achieved our primary goal of establishing a sound baseline of data about working at Augsburg. Thanks to the many full-time faculty and staff who participated in the survey, we achieved a 68% response rate and now have a benchmark against which to gauge our progress as we move forward.

This survey is an important part of the College's commitment to talking openly about where we stand with our employees, and it provides us with a valuable opportunity to identify our strengths and understand important challenges to address. We expect to receive the summary report of Augsburg's aggregate data this week. Our plan is to use the data both to highlight topics that were seen as strengths and to identify key areas where improvements are needed and include them in our planning over the next several years.

The data analysis will be led by Dionne Doering, senior human resources generalist, and me. We expect to discuss key findings from the survey with leadership groups--including the Faculty and Staff senates--in the next few months, then bring the discussion to the larger campus community at Community Time and All Hands meetings later this fall, with the goal of providing everyone an opportunity to understand the initial benchmark we are working from.

I look forward to reviewing the survey results with you over the next several months and to using the information and dialogue to move us toward our vision of becoming an employer of choice.

Best regards,

Andrea L. Turner
Assistant Vice President for Human Resources
and Chief Diversity Officer
