Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Crime Alert: Burglary in the Christensen Center

On Saturday, June 19, 2010, at approximately 6:50 AM, two individuals entered an office suite in the Christensen Center and took two desktop computers. It is possible that the individuals entered the office suite through a door that was sticking open due to the humidity. The building had been opened for the day. The individuals found bags in two unlocked interior offices and used these to carry the desktop computers. It appears that the burglars only entered area they found open, they did not force open any doors. Augsburg DPS is working with the Minneapolis Police to identify those responsible. The burglary was reported to DPS on Monday, June 21.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg's Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- Always lock your room or office whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes, a residence hall or office burglary can take even less time.

- Pull your office door closed behind you. If a door is sticking, submit a work order to report the problem.

- Lock all interior and exterior doors to your office suite. You want as many barriers as possible between your valuables and a thief or burglar.

- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, take your valuables with you or leave them at home.

- Keep your car keys on your person at all times. If a crook can take your keys, they can take your car.

- Regularly back-up all data on your computer and encourage your friends and colleagues to do likewise. Students and employees should contact student computing or their LFC respectively with questions about backing up their data.

- Be aware of strangers who may be looking for valuables to return and steal later. Immediately report suspicious activity to Augsburg DPS.

If you have questions or concerns regarding crime at Augsburg, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety at 612-330-1644 or pack@augsburg.edu.

iTerm: Now Open to ALL Students

Augsburg’s innovative course, iTerm: Fate of the Earth 101, is now, by popular demand, OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS! We’d love for you to join us.

Here’s the quick overview of what to expect:

Documenting the Holidays for Payroll

Dr. Paul Pribbenow has graciously proclaimed July 2, 2010, as an additional paid holiday. This applies to all non-union benefits eligible employees, both exempt and non-exempt. This is in addition to the July 5, 2010 scheduled holiday for Independence Day.

To indicate these days off and to be ensured payment for the day, please indicate the number of hours to be paid, prorated for those working less than 1.0 FTE, with the code PH (President’s Holiday) on July 2nd and with the code H (July 4th Holiday) on July 3rd. This is to be done on timesheets or absence reports, depending on which the employee is required to complete.

If a supervisor feels it is necessary for an employee to work on July 2nd, please make arrangements with the employee to take another day off the next week and mark it as PH in the same manner noted above.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
