General Announcements

Auditions for St. Joan of the Stockyards

The Augsburg Theatre Arts Department will hold auditions for the spring Mainstage show, St. Joan of the Stockyards on Friday January 15 from 3:30-6:45 and Saturday January 16th from 10:30-12:00. Callbacks will be held Saturday from 12:30 - 4:00.

St. Joan of the Stockyards was written by Bertolt Brecht and will be guest directed by Vladimir Rovinsky.

St. Joan of the Stockyards is a cautionary tale for the 21st century. The survival of youth, hope and faith in a world of greed and corruption hang in the balance. The play follows the central character, Joan, as she transitions from being a religious leader urging the poor to look to heaven for their rewards, into a striking worker demanding justice through force. With his barbed wit, Brecht exposes the inner working of the unregulated free enterprise system, which i free to inflict misery on the masses in the pursuit of and in the name of the almighty dollar.

Sign up for auditions on the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater doors.
Contact stage manager Sam Lavell lavell@augsburg.edu with questions or concerns.

Auggie Athletics

Chris Johnson in Today's Star-Tribune

Augsburg College men's hockey player Chris Johnson (SR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) is featured in a column by Rachel Blount in Tuesday's (1/12) Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Story:
http://www.startribune.com/sports/olympics/81196267.html

The column, "Olympic gig richens family's hockey heritage," features Chris Johnson and his father Mark Johnson, the coach of the U.S. Olympic women's hockey team.

The Johnson's are a legendary hockey family. Chris' grandfather, "Badger Bob" Johnson, was the longtime coach of the University of Wisconsin and later a coach in the NHL, and Mark Johnson was a member of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic men's hockey team, before playing for more than a decade in professional hockey. Mark is now the head coach of the Wisconsin women's hockey team, and is taking a leave of absence from that job to coach the Olympic women's hockey team in the upcoming Vancouver Olympics.

The Olympic women's hockey team is headquartered at the Schwan SuperRink in Blaine, Minn., during its training for the Olympic games, and Mark Johnson has been in the Twin Cities since September.

Chris Johnson, a two-year captain for Augsburg, earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Division III All-American honors last season and has six goals and eight assists for 14 points this year. In his 90-game collegiate career at Augsburg, Johnson now has 101 points (36 goals, 65 assists).

Augsburg is 9-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 in MIAC play, having won its last seven games in a row. The Auggies face Gustavus in a series this weekend.
