The following new courses were approved (effective Spring 2010 or later):
• POL368: Model United Nations
• POL310: Citizen Participation within a Globalized Economy—A Nicaraguan Case Study
• ENV310: Environmental Politics Field Seminar
• MAT369: Modeling and Differential Equations in the Biological and Natural Sciences
• MAT247: Modeling and Differential Equations
• ENL251: Introduction to African American Literature
• MAT164: Introductory Biostatistics (also approved as a QF)
• PSY390: Special Topics in Psychology
The following course revisions were approved (effective Spring 2010 or later):
• PSY373: Industrial/Organizational Psychology; pre-requisite changed to PSY105
The following major/program changes were approved (effective September 2010):
• Chemistry minor—broadened to allow students to concentrate their studies in chemistry
The following policy proposals were approved:
• Revision of MnSCU Transfer Student Policies (effective immediately): This revision addresses the MnSCU system-wide change that AA degrees now consist of 60 semester credits (instead of 64). The revision removes the guarantee that transfer students with an AA and a 2.5 cumulative GPA would have junior standing and 16 Augsburg course credits to reflect the change in AA semester credits. The revision also allows that students with an AA and a 2.5 cumulative GPA would earn Augsburg course credits for college-level courses in which they earned a C- or better (with the exception of courses that have a specified minimum grade at Augsburg that is higher than a C-).
• Nursing Transfer Student Policies for RN to BSN Program (effective Spring 2010): This policy revision allows that RN students who are admitted to the BSN program will be awarded 6 Augsburg course credits for their previous coursework in their RN program. The policy change allows the course credits to be awarded to all students, whereas the former policy excluded international student and students who were admitted conditionally and demonstrated their ability to succeed in the BSN coursework.
Learn About Adult Student Recruitment and Retention
For Nontraditional Student Week, the Augsburg for Adults office is hosting two brown bag lunches. Staff members who attended the Adult Student Recruitment & Retention Conference in Madison, WI will share what they learned at this conference's keynote and breakout sessions.
Topics will include graduation rates of adult students, development of programs for nontraditional students, holistic approaches to adult student retention, and more!

Environment or Native American Studies Interest?
Calling all sophomores & juniors interested in pursuing careers related to either of the following: (a) the environment, or (b) Native American health care or tribal public policy. The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation are merit-based scholarships covering tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $5,000 for one year. The Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, such as policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.

By Monday: Get Nominated to Learn About IES Abroad
Curious about the study abroad programs Augsburg sends your students on? Interested to know more about what classes are available for students to take while they're abroad? The IES Abroad Familiarization trip to London and Berlin would be the perfect opportunity to learn more! Spend about a week (February 14-20, 2010) learning about IES Abroad's semester programs, and see the sights in London and Berlin at the same time!
The IES Abroad Semester program in London offers courses in a variety of disciplines, and field study opportunities, workshops, and internships are also available. The IES Abroad Semester program in Berlin offers courses in Cultural Identity, Gender and Sexual Politics, Multiculturalism, and Urban Studies. Academic field study into surrounding neighborhoods as well as local European cities are available.

Saykham Chen's Farewell Gathering
Anytime we loose a good staff member we are sad to see them leave, but we are also excited for their next endeavors.
Please join the HR staff in saying goodbye to Saykham Chen (who has been with us for 4 years). Saykham has been instrumental in weathering the many changes in Human Resources and providing continual service during those times. We will say goodbye on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Room (Christensen Center). We will be serving cake and punch.
Spanish Conversation this Thursday

Faculty and Staff To-Go Containers Hit the Commons
Faculty & Staff, Get your To-Go containers Now! If you are on the go or just want to eat in the office, well now you can. Just purchase an Eco-friendly reusable to-go Container for the Commons for the one-time Price of $5.99 per semester to use once per meal when you purchase your meal. Simply bring in a clean container for your food, load it up and go. If you are choosing to eat in the Commons, simply turn in the used container and get a card showing that you have purchased a container. Turn the card in when you are ready to use the Container again.
Restrictions: You may only use your container once per meal. You may not eat in the Commons and then choose to use your container. The Container is only for Faculty and Staff in the Commons. If you loose your container and/or your redeemer card and want to continue in the program, you must purchase one at full price ($5.99).

Free Student Yoga - TONIGHT
There will be free yoga for students tonight (Wed. 11/4) from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in OGC 114.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College will host St. John's University in the Auggies' final "home" game of the season on Saturday (11/7) at 1 p.m. at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Free parking is available in the Metrodome upper lot, adjacent to the Vikings' ticket office. Lot entrance is off of 11th Avenue South, near the intersection with 5th Street South.
Tickets will be sold at Gate B (adjacent to the North end of the parking lot) starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Pass gate and will call tickets will be at Gate D (adjacent to the South end of the parking lot above the loading dock entrance). Entry gates will open at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets will be handled just like a regular Augsburg home game. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for students. Augsburg, A-Club and MIAC passes will be accepted. All Augsburg students, faculty and staff get into any Augsburg regular-season home game free with ID. Augsburg students, faculty and staff MUST bring their student/staff ID with them in order to receive free admission. There will be no presale of tickets prior to the game.
All fan seating will be on the east site (football press box side), with Augsburg seating in Sections 109-113 and St. John’s seating in Sections 104-108.
Also on Saturday, the Minnesota Twins will be holding a "moving sale" at the Metrodome, which begins at 10 a.m., and runs until 4 p.m. Please be advised that people attending that event will also be able to park in the Metrodome upper lot.
If you can't make it to the game, you can listen to the action live online, through Augsburg's live audio webcast (Stretch Internet).
The game will mark the 20th season in a row that Augsburg has played a football game at the Metrodome. Augsburg will be making its 23rd football appearance at the Metrodome this season since 1983, the most of any MIAC school. The Auggies have a 8-14 record in games played at the Metrodome and a 9-14 record all-time in games played indoors. Augsburg also won an NCAA Division III playoff game over Concordia-Moorhead at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D., in 1997.
