The Lynx Basketball and Cedar Riverside

The Minnesota Lynx has given The East African Women's Center (one of our community partners)a unique opportunity to create a "Basketball Family Extravaganza" to introduce East African girls, boys, and their families to basketball; it also gives families a night out together.

What makes this event extraordinary for the young people of our community is that one of the Lynx players, six-foot-three center and 2009 Western Conference All-Star, Nicky Anosike, also has African roots. She was drafted by the Lynx and has started in all 17 games this season.

The Extravaganza is composed of two parts... Nicky will come to a Lynx sponsored event at the Brian Coyle Community Center on Thursday, August 6. Girls and boys will have an opportunity to meet her and play ball with her.

Then on Friday, August 7, the Lynx will host a Basketball Family Extravaganza at Target Center. With 400 tickets (much reduced in price by the Lynx), neighborhood families will have the opportunity to attend a 7 PM Lynx game—most for the very first time—and girls and boys will see Nicky and her team play.

Please help support this Basketball Family Extravaganza by assuring that every family can attend. Your $40 contribution will sponsor a family of four to go to the Lynx game. If you can afford to sponsor two families—or three—that would be wonderful!
______ I will contribute $40 to sponsor a family of four
______ I will contribute $100 to assure that 10 mothers, fathers, girls, and boys can attend
______ I can afford more so even more families will be able to enjoy this community event
Please make your check payable to CSCM (Confederation of Somali Communities of MN) and send your contribution by August 3rd to:

CSCM
Basketball Family Extravaganza
420 15th Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55454

Thank you!
Saeed Fahia and Doroth Mayer (CSCM Directors)

Lunch at New Picnic Table in Community Garden

Have you seen the community garden lately? A big thanks to all those employees, students, and neighbors who have made it really shine this summer. What better way to enjoy it than visiting for lunch?

We just received a brand new 10 person picnic table, placed on a patio space in the shade of that huge, stately cottonwood tree. Please feel free to use it any time to eat, read, or have a meeting. If anyone is interested, I'll be there next Wednesday and Thursday at noon to dine and give a tour of the garden. Please let me know if I can expect you, or just drop in.

See you in the garden soon!

Awesome Apt. in Longfellow - Available Sept. 1

Hey!

If you are looking for a great place to live, I've got the place for you.

Large and spacious 1 bedroom apartment in the Longfellow neighborhood. Hardwood floors, full bathroom with bath, large kitchen with room for table, big living room, off-street parking available. Lease length is flexible, 6 or 12 months work. Laundry in the basement, good neighbors.

The place is 4 blocks from Lake Street, 4 blocks from the Riverview Theatre and 6 blocks from the river. Its an awesome location. 15 minute bike ride to Augsburg, and close to bus lines.

Rent is 700/month plus electric (which is like $15/month).

If you are interested and want to see the place, let me know. Email me at glusenka@augsburg.edu

I love the place, I just want to move out to live with friends and I didn't give a 60 day notice, so I need to make sure to find someone to start renting when my lease is up.
