Core Curriculum Checklists

Did you see what's new on the Augnet Records and Registration Welcome page? Students entering Augsburg in fall 2006 or later now have access to their updated, unofficial core checklist through Augnet Records and Registration. To access your core checklist, simply go to Inside Augsburg and log in to Augnet Services. After logging in, click on Records and Registration. This will bring you to the Welcome page. The Core Curriculum Checklist link is found on the Welcome page under "Download the PDF".

This unofficial core checklist should be thought of as a tracking tool or progress report, a way for you to track completion of your core requirements. It is an estimate and may not reflect exceptions/waivers granted, transfer courses, and ACTC classes. This tool should help you prepare for the graduation application process which is the official verification of remaining requirements.

The document is current as of the grade reporting deadline for the previous term. This core curriculum checklist will be updated at the end of every term once grading is complete. Please compare this document with your records and review any questions or concerns with your faculty advisor and/or Academic Advising. Students will direct requests for adjustments to the Registrar's Office via e-mail at registrar@augsburg.edu.

Leadership: Is Anyone Ready to Go?

The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS) invites you attend a presentation by David Tiede entitled "Leadership: Is Anyone Ready to Go?"

Date: Thursday, April 23
Time: 5:30 p.m. social time with refreshments; 6-7 p.m. presentation
Place: Marshall Room, Christensen Center

Leadership happens in change. If your organization wants to keep things the same, they will not welcome a leader. Getting a title on your door isn't automatically leadership.

How dynamic or stable is your organization? How far will they move when coerced by fear? Can your vision of a preferred future draw them beyond their comfort zones? Are you willing to pay the price of leadership? This workshop is intended to help you analyze your real situation, assess your organization's and your own readiness for change, and appreciate the joy, risk, and courage of a leadership calling.

About the Speaker
David Tiede is the Bernhard M. Christensen professor of vocation at Augsburg and emeritus professor and president of Luther Seminary. He received his PhD from Harvard and writes on the Jewish and cosmopolitan world of the New Testament. Tiede came to Augsburg in 2005 and became a fan of the MAL program, collaborating with Norma Noonan on the "Called to Lead" seminars.

For more information or to reserve a space in this free workshop, please contact Patty Park 612-330-1150 or parkp@augsburg.edu.

Celebrate Spring at the Silkesnas Preserve

Silkesnas (silk-es-nas) is a privately owned Nature Preserve near Spring Valley, Wisconsin (just one hour from Augsburg!). On April 26, 2009, from 1-5 p.m., Silkesnas will hold its annual Spring in the Valley event. Many activities are held out of doors, and walking on natural terrain of light difficulty is required. Visitors should plan to spend approximately two hours to take in all of the activities including viewing the natural beauty of the area and visiting with and learning from the various subject matter experts volunteering at the Preserve. Our programs appeal to those who believe in being part of the solution, those that are looking for opportunities to lead positive change.

This year's theme is "A Parade of Healthy Homes." Around the preserve, visitors will get the opportunity to see and hear about the homes of some of the wild animals in the area (bear, coyotes, birds). There will be opportunities for planting trees and prairie restoration, important in maintaining healthy habitat. In the Visitor Center, there will be presentations on human habitat. LEED certified green buildings will be presented by Mark Paschke from Frisbie Architects Inc., conducting indoor health assessments will be presented by Oram Miller- Certified Building Biology Environmental Inspector from Create Healthy Homes Inc., and sustainable landscape principles and practices will be presented by Randy Nyeggen of Environmental Landscape Inc. An authentic Native American teepee will be on site, with local area Boy Scout Troup 145 on hand to explain the history and technical aspects of this early human home. A local area vendor fair will be onsite, featuring items like honey, maple syrup, soaps, breads and more.

Spring in the Valley is produced and sponsored entirely by volunteers. The Silkesnas Preserve is located west of Spring Valley, WI on County Road CC; 1/3 mile south of the intersection of Highway 29 and county Road CC. Look for signs, and park on the roadside. See http://www.silkesnas.org for more details. At Silkesnas, "We leverage Wisconsin's landscape to nurture the landscape of the human heart."
