Corporate and Foundation Relations Survey

Augsburg is energetically working to foster strategic alliances that engage corporations and foundations in our work. Our goal is to develop comprehensive, campus-wide corporate and foundation relationships that will increase charitable gifts to the college. We want to increase outreach activities to corporations and foundations, particularly those with faculty, staff, student, alumni and Regent connections. These relationships are very important because they can help open doors for Augsburg to begin conversations with corporations and foundations.

We need your help to identify existing relationships with approximately 40 major corporations and foundations that have the potential to become major investors in Augsburg College. Please take five minutes to complete a web-based survey on corporate and foundation connections. The survey can be accessed by going to the following web address: http://web.augsburg.edu/it/survey.

We will follow up with you directly based on any connections you may have. We would appreciate it if you would complete the survey by May 31. Thank you for your help with this important work.

Jeremy Wells, Vice President, Institutional Advancement

MINNEAPOLIS -- Three Augsburg College football seniors were named to the 2009 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society, honoring some of the top student-athletes in college football.

Augsburg quarterback Jordan Berg (SR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) and offensive linemen Brandon Rudenick (SR, Nicollet, Minn.) and Mike Struss (SR, Nicollet, Minn.) were named to the Hampshire Honor Society. Berg is a physics major with a 3.773 grade-point average, while Rudenick is a health and physical education major with a 3.529 GPA, and Struss is a business management major with a 3.423 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must be a starter or significant substitute in their last year of eligibility, have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale), and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. A total of 564 players from 266 schools qualified for membership in the society's third year, a 27 percent increase from the 2008 class. In its inaugural year in 2007, the Hampshire Honor Society honored over 300 students from 195 schools.

Berg and Rudenick were both named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team this season, while Struss earned All-MIAC second-team honors. Berg and Rudenick also earned D3football.com All-West Region second-team honors this season. Berg was also named as one of 10 finalists, and one of four regional finalists, for the Gagliardi Trophy, honoring the top student-athlete in NCAA Division III football.

Berg finished his three-season career at Augsburg as the top passing quarterback in school history. In his career, Berg finished with 8,777 passing yards (292.6 yards per-game) on 796-of-1,350 pasing with 74 touchdowns -- all school records. Berg also holds the MIAC's career passing yardage record (conference games-only) with 7,414 yards in 24 league games.

In his first year as Augsburg's starting center after missing last season due to injury, Rudenick led an offense that averaged 378.3 yards per-game (second-best in the MIAC), including a passing average of 325.5 yards per-game -- tops among MIAC teams and fifth-best nationally among Division III teams -- while surrendering just 22 sacks. Rudenick has been a versatile lineman, playing both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball in his career. Rudenick was also a team co-captain this season.

Struss completed his second full year as a starter for the Auggies on the offensive line. In his two seasons as a starter at tackle, Augsburg has produced 8,030 yards of total offense (401.5 yards per-game), including 6,839 passing yards (341.95 yards per-game), while surrendering just 45 sacks.

Under fourth-year head coach Frank Haege, Augsburg finished 5-5 overall, 3-5 in MIAC play, duplicating its record from 2007. Augsburg opened its season with four straight victories, including its second win in a row over nationally-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) in nonconference play, a 30-24 overtime win on Sept. 13.

Berg Named Finalist for CSN Student-Athlete Award

Berg named finalist for CSN award
http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2009/4/28/fb042809.aspx?path=football

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College football quarterback Jordan Berg (SR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) was named as one of three finalists for the fourth annual College Sporting News Senior Student-Athlete Award for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, it was announced on Monday.

The CSN Senior Student-Athlete Award is awarded to one male and one female senior student-athlete who personify what the MIAC and NCAA Division III athletics represent: academic excellence, outstanding athletic performance, and a commitment to community service.

Berg was named as one of three male finalists for the award, joining St. John's golfer Joe Daly and Hamline basketball player Tony Thrasher. Female finalists are Gustavus softball player Rachael Click, St. Thomas volleyball player Katie McCaffrey and St. Thomas cross country/track athlete Katie Theisen. The finalists were picked from a pool of nine male student-athletes nominated from MIAC schools, and selected by a CSN committee of former conference student-athletes, along with administrators and coaches. The award-winners will be announced next week.

Berg completed 297-of-499 passes for 3,226 yards and 25 touchdowns against just 14 interceptions in 2008, the completion total a single-season school record. Each of the other passing totals were the second-most in a single season in school history, behind his numbers from 2007. Nationally in 2008, Berg finished second among Division III quarterbacks in completions per-game (29.70), fourth in passing yardage per-game (322.60), ninth in total passing yardage (3,226), ninth in total offense yardage per-game (314.2) and 22nd in points responsible for per-game (17.00). Berg led the MIAC in passing yardage per-game and total offense in both overall (322.6, 314.2) and conference games-only (333.4, 320.6).

In 2008, Berg was named as one of 10 finalists, and later as one of four regional finalists, for the Gagliardi Trophy, given to the top student-athlete in NCAA Division III football. Berg was also named first-team All-MIAC, his second all-conference honor, after being named second-team All-MIAC in 2007. He was also named to the D3football.com All-West Region second team. In November, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team. A physics major with a 3.773 grade-point average, he was an Academic All-MIAC honoree in both 2007 and 2008. He is a team co-captain.

At the recent Auggie Awards, Berg was selected as Augsburg's Male Honor Athlete, the highest honor given to Augsburg's senior student-athletes for athletic and academic excellence.

In addition to his athletic and academic credentials, Berg has served as a volunteer at local food shelves and a volunteer coach at youth basketball camps. He took part in a mission trip to Benton Harbor, Mich., to volunteer at a local Boys and Girls Club and help refurbish and paint homes of people in need. He has volunteered for Adopt-a-Highway trash pickup efforts, as well as park cleanup for Earth Day. He has taken part in Christmas caroling with a church group at an area nursing home/Heritage House, and has worked as a volunteer teacher's assistant with elementary physical education classes.

A skilled artist, Berg has designed logos for the football team and Augsburg's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, along with painting a mural for the Augsburg football locker room and designing tattoos for both himself and his teammates. He has also restored his own Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Frykmark Named MIAC Women's Golfer of Week

Frykmark named MIAC Women's Golfer of Week

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College women's golfer Johanna Frykmark (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

At the Macalester Spring Extravaganza on Saturday, Frykmark shot a career-best 4-over-par 76 to earn medalist honors, leading Augsburg to victory in the three-team meet with a single-round total of 366 -- its best round since the 2004-05 campaign.

Frykmark shot just the fourth round in the 70s in the 15-year history of the Augsburg women's golf program and the second-best round in school history. Marisa Navarro holds the school single-round record with a 72 shot in a 2005 meet. Frykmark's previous career-best round was 81.

An All-MIAC golfer last season, Frykmark has struggled with a chronic thumb injury this year. But she finished the spring half of the season strong, with three of her five spring rounds in the 70s and 80s, including Saturday's 76 round.

Frykmark finished the 2008-09 season with a 90.8 stroke average, second-best on the team. Her 91.0 career stroke average is currently fourth-best in school history.
