Teaching and Learning

Leadership: Is Anyone Ready to Go?

The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS) invites you attend a presentation by David Tiede entitled Leadership: Is Anyone Ready to Go?"

Date: Thursday, April 23
Time: 5:30 p.m. social time with refreshments; 6:00-7:00 p.m. presentation
Place: Marshall Room, Christensen Center

Leadership happens in change. If your organization wants to keep things the same, they will not welcome a leader. Getting a title on your door isn't automatically leadership.

How dynamic or stable is your organization? How far will they move when coerced by fear? Can your vision of a preferred future draw them beyond their comfort zones? Are you willing to pay the price of leadership? This workshop is intended to help you analyze your real situation, assess your organization's and your own readiness for change, and appreciate the joy, risk, and courage of a leadership calling.

About the Speaker
David Tiede is the Bernhard M. Christensen professor of vocation at Augsburg and emeritus professor and president of Luther Seminary. He received his PhD from Harvard and writes on the Jewish and cosmopolitan world of the New Testament. Tiede came to Augsburg in 2005 and became a fan of the MAL program, collaborating with Norma Noonan on the "Called to Lead" seminars.

For more information or to reserve a space in this free workshop, please contact Patty Park (612-330-1150 or parkp@augsburg.edu).

Cash Prize for your Writing

Do you have an academic paper you're particularly proud of? It might be worth even more than the grade you received. The Augsburg Honors Review wants to publish your work. All you have to do is submit it!

What to Submit:
We will consider papers from all disciplines that successfully articulate an original and compelling thesis.

Why Submit?
Being a published author is one of the best ways to demonstrate your writing skills to graduate schools, professional schools, and employers.

How to Submit:
Please send your work to review@augsburg.edu and include the following information:

-- The first and last names of all authors and faculty advisors,
-- Your anticipated graduation date,
-- A reliable way to contact you other than your college-provided email address,
-- The name of the institution where your research was conducted (if other than Augsburg), and
-- The title of your paper.

We prefer Microsoft Word format (.doc) for all attachments.

Submit your work by 10 AM on April 26, 2009, to be eligible for a $100 prize! Contact Shawn Boonstra (boonstra@augsburg.edu) for details and eligibility restrictions.

What is the Augsburg Honors Review?
The Augsburg Honors Review is an interdisciplinary journal exhibiting outstanding work by undergraduate students. The goal of the AHR is to give students the opportunity to participate in scholarly conversations within their disciplines and to expose them to the dialogue between a journal and a contributor in editing an article for publication.

Free TV

Older model TV, 17"x 17" screen. The TV is in great shape. TV has cable jack, and will work fine if you have cable for the digital tv transition. Because of its age it does not have a DVD jack. However, I have a DVD/Cable modulator so you can hook up your DVD player, this will be included. Also included is a universal remote (and instructions), I lost the original remote a few years ago and needed to replace it with a universal one.

I have recently gotten a new TV and understand that because of its age, this one isn't worth much. I would rather give it to someone who wants it than recycle it, etc.

If you live on campus I can bring it to your residence hall. If you are off-campus you can pick it up from me at my office on campus. Please email nugent@augsburg.edu if you are interested. Thanks!
