Would You Like to be Published?

Do you have an academic paper you're particularly proud of?

It might be worth even more than the grade you received.

The Augsburg Honors Review wants to publish your work. All you have to do is submit it!

What to Submit:
We will consider papers from all disciplines that successfully articulate an original and compelling thesis.

Why Submit?
Being a published author is one of the best ways to demonstrate your writing skills to graduate schools, professional schools, and employers.

How to Submit:
Please send your work to review@augsburg.edu and include the following information:

-- The first and last names of all authors and faculty advisors,
-- Your anticipated graduation date,
-- A reliable way to contact you other than your college-provided email address,
-- The name of the institution where your research was conducted (if other than Augsburg), and
-- The title of your paper.

We prefer Microsoft Word format (.doc) for all attachments.

The priority deadline to submit your work for the 2010 publication is April 20, 2009.

What is the Augsburg Honors Review?
The Augsburg Honors Review is an interdisciplinary journal exhibiting outstanding work by undergraduate students. The goal of the AHR is to give students the opportunity to participate in scholarly conversations within their disciplines and to expose them to the dialogue between a journal and a contributor in editing an article for publication.

For more information, please contact Shawn Boonstra (boonstra@augsburg.edu).

Enhance Feedback with Moodle Gradebook

According to Chickering and Gamson (1987), prompt and appropriate feedback on performance is one of the best practices for undergraduate education. Feedback can take on many forms including face-to-face discussions with students, written comments on papers and assessment tracking in a course gradebook. Our campus course content management system, Moodle has a built-in gradebook which could provide one mode of feedback for your students.

Please join us for a workshop on Wednesday, March 11th from 9:20-10:20 am or 1:20-2:20 pm in Foss 22A for a workshop exploring use and setup of Moodle gradebook for your courses. RSVPs for this workshop are appreciated but not necessary and you may attend as much or as little of the workshop as your schedule allows.

For additional information please contact Eric Strom (x.1739) or Scott Krenz (x.1112)

Auggie Athletics

Auggies Finish 2nd at D-III Wrestling Nationals

Augsburg finishes second at NCAA Division III wrestling national championships

Complete coverage online:
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/wrestling/0809statistics/2009ncaa.html

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (3/7/09) -- Jared Massey (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) claimed the 44th individual national title in Augsburg College wrestling history, dominating in an 11-2, major-decision triumph over Ryan Malo of Williams (Mass.) in the 197-pound title match, as his Auggies finished second in the team race at the NCAA Division III national championships, completed on Saturday evening at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Massey used three takedowns, a reversal and a two-point near-fall in a dominating performance, building 4:22 of riding time to cruise to the championship. The title is Augsburg's 44th in program history, including a record 40 in NCAA Division III action (1983-present).

Massey is in his first season of collegiate wrestling after a four-year absence from the sport. A two-time Minnesota state high school champion (2002-03) at Centennial High School, he competed at Division I Wisconsin in the 2003-04 season. Massey finished 30-1 on the season with 16 pins and three major decisions.

As a team, Augsburg finished second for the ninth time in school history (eight in NCAA, one in NAIA) with 105.0 points, second to repeat national champion Wartburg (Iowa), which had 117.5 points. Wisconsin-La Crosse was third with 87.0 points and Coe (Iowa) was in fourth with 65.5 points.

Augsburg claimed a top-two national finish for the 19th time in school history. Augsburg has finished as a team trophy-winner -- finishing in the top four in NCAA competition -- every season since 1989, a 21-year streak currently unmatched by any other NCAA wrestling program, regardless of division.

Under 2005 Augsburg alumnus Mark Matzek, a two-time national champion and three-time All-American in his first year as Augsburg's head coach, the Auggies claimed seven All-Americans, marking the 21st straight year that Augsburg has had at least five All-Americans in national competition -- every year since 1989.

"It feels great, especially with how Jared did in the finals," Matzek said. "Obviously, we were shooting for the gold, to win the national championship. It was really close. It was within our grasp. But each guy in this program could honestly walk off the mat and say that they gave it all they had. And that's all I or anyone can ask of them."

Jason Adams (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) finished third at 157 pounds for his second consecutive All-American finish, while Seth Flodeen (SR, Cannon Falls, Minn.) finished his collegiate career with his third All-American finish, placing fourth at 125 pounds. Flodeen also earned the "Most Falls in Least Time" award for the tournament, with four pins in 16:00.

Augsburg had three fifth-place finishers -- 133-pounder Travis Lang (SR, Bismarck, N.D.), 149-pounder Willy Holst (SR, Prescott, Wis.) and heavyweight Andy Witzel (JR, Fulda, Minn.). Zach Molitor (SO, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) finished sixth for the Auggies at 174 pounds.

4 to 1 Return on Your Investment

How can you get $4 worth of value from your $1 instantly? Give it to those who really need it.

March is MN Food Drive month, and Augsburg College's goal is to raise enough funds to provide one month's worth of food to the Brian Coyle Food shelf. We are collecting cash/checks to accomplish our goal. Rather than collecting food, we are hosting this FoodLess FoodDrive - using commodity programs and bulk buying power, money in the food shelf's hand is worth FOUR times as much as our's in a grocery store. Money also allows the food shelf to purchase exactly what the community needs.

Checks can be made payable to Brian Coyle Food shelf. You can also drop off your donation to the Center for Service, Work, & Learning (CSWL) office located in the lower level of Anderson Hall. Please call 612-330-1472 with questions. Center for Service, Work, & Learning, Office of Community Relations and Augsburg Dining thank you in advance for helping us meet our goal!

Personalized envelopes were meant to be sent to all faculty and staff but there has been a mix up. If you didn't receive your's, feel free to send you contribution anyway. If you got someone else's envelope - don't worry.
