Disability Awareness Month Information

Accessibility in daily life:

People use a variety of technologies to access the web. For example, a person who is blind may use a speech output system that reads aloud text presented on the screen. A person with a mobility impairment may be unable to use a mouse and may rely on the keyboard for web browsing. To create resources that can be used by the widest spectrum of potential visitors rather than an idealized "average," web page designers should apply "universal design" principles. This requires that they consider the needs of individuals with disabilities, older persons, people for whom English is a second language, and those using outdated hardware and software.

Tickets on Sale Now for 'Eurydice'

Tickets are now on sale for Eurydice, directed by Martha Johnson.
Available performance dates are:
October 31, and November 1, 6 and 8 at 7 p.m.
and Nov 2, 8 and 9 at 2 p.m.

In this poignant and enchanting play, Sarah Ruhl (Pulitzer Prize nominee and MacArthur genius grant winner) presents her contemporary take on the ancient Greek tale of Eurydice and Orpheus. Written after her father's death, Ruhl meditates with delicacy and insight on Eurydice's painful decision whether to remain with her father in the Underworld, or to return with her love Orpheus to the land of the living. We enter a surreal world, as lush and limpid as a dream, where both author and audience swim in the magical and thrilling flow of the unconscious. --The New Yorker

Tickets are now on sale for
$10 for General Public
$8 for ACTC faculty and staff
$5 for non-Augsburg students and
$2 for Augsburg students and children under 12
All Augsburg students need to bring their student ID.

Winter Bike Commuter Seminar Being Organized

Some have asked for a winter bicycle commuting seminar as many people want to extend their bicycle commuting into the colder weather. Doug Shidell from QBP/Little Transit Press is happy to teach a winter bicycle commuting session. He strongly encourages attendees to have six months or so of bicycle commuting under their belt as winter bicycle commuting is more challenging than fair weather. The seminar would probably be held in Edina in the near future but the date and time are still to be determined. The choice of meeting time (lunch meeting, evening session or Saturday session) is being considered. Anyone interested in attending a session please send an email to Tom Ruffaner, ruffaner@augsburg.edu with your preference for meeting times. Thanks.

Community Organizing with Campus Ministry TONIGHT

Campus Ministry and the Lilly Grant are teaming up to sponsor some workshops on faith-based community organizing. Our first session is next Thursday, October 30, at 6:30 in the Century Room (NOTE THE CHANGE). We will be learning from Lyle Griner, National Director of Peer Ministry, about inviting and welcoming.

Many of us spend time working in organizations across the campus that are dear to our heart, but sometimes we have a hard time getting the message across to others. This time will be spent learning how to approach folks, invite them into programs or activities, and make folks feel welcome.

All are welcome to attend. These will help your organizations greatly!

Turkeypalooza 2008

The Campus Kitchens Project needs your help to make this year's Turkeypalooza a success! Composting: A 'Ton' off My Mind

As you now Augsburg along with Augsburg Dining have been composting since September 22. Well the weight is in. On average, Augsburg college composts around 3/4ths of a ton a week. This is due to the contentious efforts of the Augsburg community and Tray-less Tuesday. Once again, all of the composting is going to Hennepin County witch says that we are the only private college in Hennepin county to be composting. Keep up the good work.
