That's Not Garbage; Recycle!

If you have not noticed yet, all of the cups, plates, plastic wear, napkins, straws, and to-go containers being used at Coopers Coffee Shop, Nabo, and Murphy's are biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable. So when you are done, make sure you move past the trash and help make Augsburg a little greener by recycling. Oh, and keep an eye out for our composting venture with Augsburg starting on the Sept. 22. Hey, who said, "It's not easy being green?"

Tray-less Tuesday

Tray-less Tuesday is here again. Augsburg Dining would like to thank Augsburg for all of their help and diligence with this effort to work on the environment. We are excited about the composting. Yesterday we only had one bag of garbage all day. The main goal now o Tray-less Tuesday is to limit the amount of water being wasted (3 gallons to wash one tray). Still look for the green liners for composting. Remember Food & Paper both go into the green compostable liners, no Plastic! Thank you and lets keep up the great work Augsburg Community.

Recovery Month Tidbits

For over 50 years, Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people... alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else’s drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon/Alateen fellowship.

2848 Dates

Hello!

I want to let you know about a new series of events to be held at Augsburg House this year.

Paul and I invite faculty and staff to come to our house for informal fellowship and refreshments. We’re calling this series of gatherings our “2848 Dates,” as 2848 is the West River Parkway address of Augsburg House -- plus it rhymes.

We can’t have you all over at the same time, so we’ve reserved nine dates from October through March, and each of you will receive an invitation via email to one of the gatherings which will take place from 4:30-6:00 p.m. on a weekday.

Here’s the high-tech, fun part. One day you’ll open your mailbox to find a spiffy e-vite from me. This will give you a chance to say whether you can attend on the specified date and see who else is coming. This is handy for carpooling.

Did you know there are more than 700 of us in the Augsburg faculty and staff community? My goals with these parties are to get to know more of you a little bit better, give Paul, Thomas and Maya a chance to hang out informally with Augsburg friends, and give you a tour of the remodeled Augsburg House.

We’re not inviting you by department or any other clever groupings -- instead we’re mixing you up! So, I hope you’ll come to reconnect with colleagues and maybe get to know someone you don’t regularly see on campus.

Hospitality and fellowship play important roles in our Augsburg culture. Please come!

Composting is More Than Just A Pile of Garbage

On September 22, Augsburg Dining, in a joint effort with Augsburg College, began composting upstairs in the commons. All of the food that is left over from our customers will be placed into special containers located adjacent to the trash receptacles. There will be posters up to help in the instruction of what is to go where. Over time, this effort will expand to the other retail food locations and then campus wide. The Augsburg community will be happy to know that the end product of this composting will return the the Augsburg community garden. So please look before you throw away that half eaten sandwich and see if it can't further our environmental awareness and give back to us all.

Commons Closed Thursday, Friday & Brunch Saturday

This Thursday, there is a catered dinner in the commons, and we will need all day to set up. On Friday, there is another catered lunch that will take most of the day. For both of these meals, we will be serving the food out of the Century Room located on the lower level of CC next the KAUG Radio. On Saturday, brunch will be served tailgate style in the park. Commons will re-open for Saturday dinner. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Thank you, Augsburg Dining Management.

Harvard Blue Ice Air Hockey Table (Like New)

Comes with two paddles and eight plastic pucks (2 blue octagon pucks, 2 yellow triangle pucks, 2 orange circular pucks, 2 red circular pucks).

30.25 inches high, 4 feet long, 2 feet wide. The legs fold in, so it's portable. It also doesn't take up as much space as most air hockey tables, so it would be great for a dorm as well.

I'm looking for $45 or best offer. Any questions, feel free to ask. I have pictures of it that I can send as well. Email me at shaw@augsburg.edu or call 952-432-6465 if interested.
