Welcome Weekend

The Augsburg for Adults office is organizing a "Welcome Weekend" event where we invite faculty, staff, administrators and student leaders to greet new and returning undergraduate and graduate adult students and guide them to their classes.

Our last several Welcome Weekends were very successful; as students appreciated the warmth and individual attention they received from participants. We hope to duplicate that success with your help.

For the fall trimester, we have three different shifts to choose from:

Friday, September 5, 2008: 5-6:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 7:30-9 a.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 11 a.m. -12 noon (to guide students to Convocation)

As a reminder, Opening Convocation takes place on Saturday, September 6, at 12 noon in the Hoversten Chapel.

If you are interested in creating a welcoming atmosphere for our new and continuing students, please contact me with your shift preference at foxwilso@augsburg.edu. I will contact participants with more information.

New Food Court Is Open

Tired of getting your food out of chafing dishes with limited options? Well Aviands is tired of serving you that way. We are excited to begin to give Augsburg what it deserves from its food service with the quality and verity that Aviands can deliver. The new food court will be open for lunch and dinner. Please stop by and tell us what you think. If you have any suggestions please e-mail me at crossj@augsburg.edu. Thank you and enjoy!

Get Political Volunteers Needed

"Get Political" begins on August 24, and we need your assistance.

From August 24 to September 4, faculty and students from 48 colleges and universities across the country will be at Augsburg for the Washington Center Campaign 2008 Presidential Academic Seminar. Your help is important to providing the best possible Augsburg experience to all of our guests.

This academic seminar provides an opportunity to be involved in the behind-the-scenes work of the Republican National Convention and to help Augsburg shine on the national stage. There are many ways for faculty and staff to assist -- see a list of volunteer needs at www.augsburg.edu/getpolitical.

When you've found a task that fits your talents or interests, contact Sara Schlipp-Riedel at 612-330-1323 or email schlipp@augsburg.edu to be added to the volunteer schedule.

Thank you for supporting this exciting program. You are invited to attend the Get Political Speaker Series that begins on September 1 -- watch for details on Augsburg's Get Political website.

Got Talent?

Are you gifted? Do you have some talent to brag about? Know an Augsburg student that you'd love to see perform? Augsburg Orientation is hosting a talent/variety show where Augsburg students can show us what they're made of.

Acts can be up to ten minutes long and can include anything from spoken word, musical performances, dance, or anything that you happen to be great at. The performance will take place on Thursday, September 4 from 7-9 p.m. We will be providing a basic sound system. You are responsible for everything else, but let us know if there is anything additional that you will need as we may have it already.

If you are interested in performing, please email Solveig at orientat@augsburg.edu by August 28 with your name, contact info, act, time needed, and equipment needs. We will be selecting acts on the 2 and will let you know that evening if you have been selected.
