Security and Facilities Announcements

Security Alert: Two Burglaries

The Department of Public Safety wants you to be aware of two burglaries that occurred on campus. The first occurred in Mortenson Hall on July 9, 2008 between midnight and 6:30 a.m. An unknown person entered an unlocked residence hall room and removed several items of value.

The second burglary occurred in the administrative section of Anderson Hall between June 20 and June 28. The incident was reported to public safety on July 8. An unknown person entered an office and took a large sum of cash. There are no signs of forced entry. The office was occasionally open and unattended on the dates where the loss occurred.

If you have any information regarding either of these crimes, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- Lock it or lose it! 80% of burglaries at Augsburg involve unlocked doors and windows.

- Always lock your room or office whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes. Residence hall and office burglaries take even less time.

- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, leave unnecessary valuables at home. If you must store valuable items in your office, consider purchasing a small safe. Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety can advise you on the purchase and use of a safe.

- Keep your car keys on your person at all times. This is especially important if you have a remote unlocking device for your car!

- Immediately report suspicious persons or activity to the Minneapolis Police or Augsburg DPS. You can reach Augsburg DPS all day, every day at x1717.

If you have questions or concerns regarding crime at Augsburg, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety at 612-330-1644 or pack@augsburg.edu.

8th Annual Music for Social Change

Music For Social Change is a day of singing, songwriting, and fun. For eight years, Advocating Change Together has hosted this musical event, bringing together self-advocates, consumers, and allies to sing songs from civil rights movements and create new songs to capture the spirit of the disability rights movement.

The purpose of this workshop is to expand the use of music in our work, promote disability as a civil rights struggle, and celebrate our ability to create a more just society.

Musicians Larry Dittberner, Sherry Minnick, Maria Brown, and Vern Bloom have experience singing with groups and including everyone in the singing and activities.

The workshop is free. Lunch is provided.

Wanted - Target Rx Color Rings

I am working on an art project using the color coding rings around the mouth of Target prescription bottles. If you use Target pharmacy, please take the ring off the bottle before recycling it and send it to my campus box - #76. This is an ongoing project and I will be collecting the rings for some time, so keep them coming! Thank you in advance.
