Scholarly Writing Group: Call for New Leadership

If you are interested in joining and/or helping to facilitate Augsburg's Scholarly Writing Group in 2008-09, please contact Doug Green green@augsburg.edu. SWG has served Augsburg since 2001 by providing a community for active scholars as well as feedback on current research and writing projects.

The Scholarly Writing Group has had a remarkable run this year: 12 meetings with approximately 5-8 members present. Two of these were general discussions: the opening planning session and the community-time lunch-forum on scholarship, which Vicki Olson attended as head of the Senate. Ten people presented: Christina Erickson, Diane Glorvigen, Barb Curchack (first time), Jacqui deVries, Beverly Smith-Keiling, Jessica Nathanson (first time), James Vela-McConnell, Mary Lowe, Kerry Morgan (first time), and Lori Hale. And along with these presenters the following people attended at least one of our sponsored events: Phil Adamo, Annette Gerten, John Harkness, David Lapakko, Paul Lutter, Bruce Reichenbach, Frankie Shackelford, Bev Stratton, Kathy Swanson, Tara Sweeney, Mzenga Wanyama, and yours truly. The fields ranged from Social Work, Sociology, and Psychology to Art, Religion, Women's Studies, and Science. Presenters brought everything from outlines and draft presentations to book manuscripts.

Standing Catering Orders

A'Viands is excited to offer its services to its new community, Augsburg College. Unfortunately, due to the change over from Sodexo, many of the previously placed catering orders went with Sodexo. A'Viands is asking its new family to be patient and helpful by resubmitting previous catering orders. If there are any questions please contact Michelle Inserra at catering@augsburg.edu or at 612 358-6474. A'Viands, also known as Augsburg Dining Service, is looking forward to building a great relationship with this great community. Thank you for your understanding,
Augsburg Dining Management.

Augsburg Fund Reaches $1,000,000 Goal

The Institutional Advancement Office is pleased to announce that $1,000,978 was raised for the Augsburg Fund fiscal year ending May 31, 2008, surpassing the set goal of $1,000,000.

For Augsburg, annual support from alumni and friends is the margin between adequate and excellent. Annual gifts allow the College to improve facilities and purchase needed equipment, recruit faculty, maintain essential extracurricular and athletic programs, and enhance teaching and learning across the campus. Most importantly, gifts to this fund provide the scholarships that make an Augsburg education affordable for students in need.

Special kudos go to Joe Lindell, Director of Annual Giving, and Martha Truax, Assistant Director of Annual Giving, as well as the entire Development staff for their spirited and dedicated effort to bring about this success.

Appreciation is also expressed to all faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends of Augsburg who so generously gave to make this success possible.
