Subject: Institutional Advancement Update
Submitter:
Paul C Pribbenow, President, Office of the President

Message: Greetings,

I recently announced the good news that Jeremy R. Wells will be joining us as our Vice President for Institutional Advancement. We look forward to his arrival on August 27. Jeremy and I have been discussing the infrastructure and team that he would like to put in place as he moves our advancement efforts forward.

A key recommendation from the Advancement Audit last spring was to restructure the work of the VP for Advancement. As such, Jeremy will be devoting at least 70% of his time to external work on behalf of the college, cultivating and soliciting lead and major gift prospects, building stronger connections with alumni, enhancing our community relations, and staffing my work with major donors. To accomplish this important change in the vice president's role, we have eliminated the Director of Development and Director of Marketing and Communications positions, and have created two Assistant Vice President for Advancement positions. These two AVPs assume responsibility for the internal leadership of the advancement functions, giving Jeremy more time on the road for donor cultivation. Government and Community Relations will continue to report directly to the VP for Institutional Advancement.

Annie Sarver-Bodoh has served as Director of Development for the last year. She has been very helpful in developing measurements and accountabilities in the development area. With the elimination of the Director of Development position, Jeremy has requested to fill the new AVP position with someone he has worked with in the past. I met with Annie and discussed how we can support her as she transitions out of Augsburg and into new opportunities. She has been offered a severance agreement that provides continued salary, benefit coverage, and job-seeking support. We are grateful to Annie for her work during the last year.

Jeremy is discussing the AVP position that will oversee development, alumni relations, parent and family relations, and advancement services with a small, select group of former colleagues and connections that he has developed over the years. He is looking for the clear, strong alignment between their skills and experience and the profile that will best serve Augsburg College. We will keep you updated on this important hire.

David Warch will assume the other Assistant Vice President position on August 27. In addition to leading marketing and communications, he will oversee events and summer conferences, and the fine arts area. During his interim leadership role in the marketing and communications area, he has demonstrated sharp marketing skills, communication savvy, a clear understanding of how we can create hospitable events and conference programs, and the ability to lead successfully during a period of change. I am especially pleased that David has accepted these new responsibilities.

David's promotion results in an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and accomplishments of another IT employee, Scott Krajewski. Scott has been in the IT department since 2000, and is being promoted into the position of Director of Information Technology Services. He will oversee IT's computing liaisons. Congratulations, Scott!

We have much work ahead of us as we continue to build relationships that result in philanthropic support to sustain this remarkable institution for many years to come. I believe we now are positioned with strong leadership, a dedicated and talented advancement team, and wonderful promise for the future of philanthropy at Augsburg. I look forward to working closely with the Institutional Advancement team as we, together, transform our philanthropic culture and secure the resources that will support our commitment to educating students for service.

Sincerely,

Paul C. Pribbenow
