Subject: Urness / Mortensen Lobby Roof Replacement

Message: Berwald Roofing has been contracted to replace the roof above the Urness / Mortensen Lobby. This roofing work will begin on Wednesday, July 11 and is expected to be complete by Friday July 13. The roofing contractor will be setting up orange fence as a safety perimeter. Please do not cross these safety areas. The north and south entrances to Mortensen Hall will be open for normal access. Subject: Melby Hall Roof Replacement

Message: J.A. Dalsin has been contracted to replace the roof above the Melby gymnasium. This roofing work began on Monday, July 9 and is expected to be complete by August 15. The north stairs entrance to Melby Hall has been temporarily closed for safety reasons. The north ramp is available for egress only. Please use the main entrance doors to Kennedy Center for access to Si Melby.

Subject: Lutheran Academy of Scholars at Harvard

Message: Mary Lowe [Religion] and Garry Hesser [Sociology & Urban Studies] are two of eight participants in the 2007 Lutheran Academy of Scholars being held at Harvard University, July 9-20. The Seminar theme is "Cultivating Authenticity: Negotiating Difference in a Plural World" and is being led by Ronald Thiemann, Harvard, and DeAne Lagerquist, St. Olaf. Mary's research topic is "What Have We to Offer? The Usefulness of Luther's Anthropology When Debating Identity, Freedom, Sex and Gender." Garry's research focus is on "Exclusivity and/or Inclusivity: A Lutheran Tradition?"


Subject: 2007 SOAR Showcase Registration

Message: The Department of Campus Activities & Orientation would like to invite you to reserve a table at the 2007 SOAR Showcase.

The Showcase is an opportunity for first-year students, parents, & family members to meet & greet individuals from a variety of offices & departments during Summer Orientation, learn about their services, and get their questions answered.

The Showcase occurs on July 19, 20, and 21 from 12 - 1:15 p.m. in Murphy Park. During the Showcase, lunch will be provided for all students, parents, family members, and Showcase participants.

Subject: 2007 Auggie Day Event Registration

Message: In an effort to collaborate with each of Augsburg's departments and offices, Campus Activities & Orientation would like to know what events you have planned that take place during Auggie Days. We will be using this information as we continue to plan for Auggie Days, our intention being to create a brochure that will present a comprehensive schedule of events.

Auggie Days will begin Saturday, September 1 and run through Sunday, September 9. Previously a shorter schedule, Auggie Days has been extended to allow for more transitional programs and ultimately a better experience for our students.

Please submit the Auggie Days Event Registration Form to our department no later than noon on Tuesday, July 17. The form can be found here:

Subject: Undergraduate Admissions-Off Campus Summer Retreat

Message: All faculty and staff are invited to the Wednesday Gathering today, July 11, in the East Commons of the Christensen Center between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for salad, fruit, and dessert buffet. We are delighted to also be hosting 25 students visiting from United International College, Zhuhai, China and encourage you to engage them in conversations to help them practice their English language skills.

The security and custodial night shift employees are also invited to the Wednesday Evening Gathering at 8 p.m. in the Riverside Room.

The first Wednesday of the month gatherings support our commitment to building community and practicing common work. They are an opportunity to get to know one another, exchange ideas, and collaborate in new ways. Please remind your colleagues and plan to join us!
