Subject: Take the Student Leadership Development Survey

Submitter:
Will O'Berry, Asst. Dir., Campus Activities & Orientation/Coord LGBTQIA Srv, Campus Activities and Orientation

Message: The Augsburg College mission is to “nurture future leaders in service to the world ...” Thus, an Augsburg education asks students to fully explore what kind of persons they will be and how they will live meaningfully in the world. An Augsburg education involves the whole student. Faculty and staff are partners in each student’s education. This holistic approach by Augsburg matches very well with the C. Charles Jackson Foundation's mission and values.

Augsburg received a grant from the Jackson Foundation to support a one-year project to analyze the leadership activities currently in place within the co-curricular program on campus. The key purpose of this project is to review current practices around student leadership development and to determine their consistency with the College’s mission.

Here is your opportunity to be a part of this exciting task by completing this short survey and sharing your experience/involvement with leadership development. Please follow this link to the survey: http://academics.augsburg.edu/surveys/leadership.survey

The records of this study will be kept private. In any sort of report that we might publish, we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify any specific student. Research records will be kept in a secure file on a secure server.

Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relationships with Augsburg College. Questions regarding this survey can be directed to Ramon L. Knox, Christensen Center 1B, 612-330-1111.

On behalf of the Augsburg Leadership Committee, we thank you in advance for your assistance. Committee members: Nina Exley, Ann Garvey, Ramon Knox, and Will O’Berry.

Subject: Augsburg Prominent at NASW Conference
Submitter:
Anthony A Bibus III, Professor, Social Work

Message: At the annual conference of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers on June 7 and 8, 2007, Augsburg College was prominent. As previously noted in A-Mail, 2007 graduate Lisa Luinenburg received the chapter's award for BSW Student of the Year, and the recipient of the chapter's award for Public Citizen of the Year was Vivian Jenkins Nelsen, CEO of Inter-Race. As president of the chapter, Prof. Laura Boisen led many of the conference events, including presenting a workshop with Prof. Maryann Syers on "Evidience-Based Practice." Other Augsburg College social work faculty conducted workshops, including Profs. Annette Gerten and Lois Bosch on "Intervention with Children Diagnosed with Conduct Disorder," adjunct faculty member Marit Appeldorn on "Infant-Parent Psychotherapy as a Clinical Lens," Prof. Glenda Rooney (with Rhonda Simpson, JD, Attorney at Law) on "A Question of Ethics," Prof. Barbara Lehmann on "Lessons Learned from the BSW Mexico Exchange," and Prof. Christina Erickson on "Parkinson's Disease, Depression, and Medication Adherence." In addition, Prof. Lois Bosch participated on a panel presenting the new association of macro practice social workers that she co-founded. All combined, Augsburg College faculty accounted for one fourth of the continuing education workshops during the two day conference.
