AIS 264 American Indians in the Cinema T 6-9 Buffalohead
Indians in the Cinema surveys various images of American Indians created by Hollywood and television. Focusing on films from the 1910s to the present, the course provides an understanding of how American Indians were portrayed in film historically, how this image has evolved over the past century, and how it is reflective of Western cultural and racial ideologies.

REL 370 American Indian Spirituality and Philosophical Thought W 6-9 Jacobson
Religious beliefs, spiritual customs, and philosophy of North American Indians are studied. Tribal similarities and differences are explored as are tribal relationships with nature, religious oversight of life cycles, sacred ritual ceremonies, and beliefs in an afterlife. (fulfills writing skills req.)

ENL 255 American Indian Literature Tu/Th 11:50-1:20 Marubbio
American Indian literature offers a survey of contemporary American Indian writing, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and drama. The course explores the richness and diversity of American Indian literature, and the ways in which literature reflects and illuminates American Indian culture and traditions. The course emphasizes close readings of literature and public speaking skills through in-class presentation and small group discussion.(fulfills speaking skills req.)

OJB 111, Beginning Ojibwe I, OJB 111 M/W 6:30-9 Greschyk

AIS 208/408 Native American Women and Film Th 6-9 Marubbio
Beginning with issues of representation and a history of Hollywood’s portrayal of Native American woman as princess figures, sexualized maidens, or squaws, we will expand our conceptualization of Native American women by put into conversation a variety of voices that talk back to or address mainstream stereotypes of Native American women. Our goal is to expand our conceptualizations of Native American women and their important roles in society by examining a variety of cultural issues as they are presented through documentary and fiction films made by and about Native American women.
*Prerequisites for 400-level component of the course include: WST 201 or any 2xx Women’s Studies course; or INS 105 or any 2XX American Indian Studies course; or consent of instructor.

Subject: The FAFSA deadline has come and gone...

Submitter:
Carly Eichhorst, Financial Aid Counselor, Enrollment Center

Message: Did you know that the deadline for undergraduate students to turn in their financial aid application was April 15th? Did you know Augsburg has a grace period that extends until May 15th allowing students to turn in forms without receiving a financial penalty?

Did you know that students who turn in forms after May 15th will have their financial aid reduced by at least 25%?

If you haven’t done so, make sure you get your financial aid forms in immediately. Currently you are unfashionably late, but if you delay much longer, you risk losing your financial aid.

All undergraduate students need to complete a 2007-08 FAFSA (remember to sign it!), submit their 07-08 verification worksheet (remember to sign it!) and turn in copies of taxes (once again… sign these!). The Financial Aid Counselors will be having walk in hours at a window at the EC from 2:30-4:30 during the month of April. Stop by and see them if you have questions or need help.

Get your PIN numbers here: www.pin.ed.gov
Complete your FAFSA here: www.fafsa.ed.gov
Download your verification worksheet here: www.augsburg.edu/enroll
Didn’t file taxes? Get a statement of non-filing here: www.augsburg.edu/enroll
