Message: ‘Invitation to Design’ workshop series

Workshops intended to enable faculty to use a systematic, purposeful approach to revising, creating, and maintaining learning experiences. All workshops are offered twice and are scheduled from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the locations listed in the information below.

Faculty considering applying for Instructional and Course Design support for Summer 2007 are strongly encouraged to attend.

Teaching and Brain Science –ne’er the twain shall meet? March 27 and 28. Bring what you have come to believe about brain science and learning and compare it with what some current experts have to say. How do the various ways we teach work with or against brain function? What does brain science tell us about crafting learning environments and experiences that are efficient and produce durable results?
Lindell 301

Brain science, ‘best practice’, and instructional design April 9 and 10. Bring your favorite ‘best practice’ guiding principles for an exploration of the relationship between these and brain science and how this can inform intentional choice in crafting learning experiences.
Cedar Room

The designing professor: changing students on purpose April 24 and 25. Bring a learning experience you’ve been working on to dip your pedagogical toes into the waters of design. We’ll work with a process that starts by identifying the change(s) we want in our students and progresses systematically (but not too fast!) to creating experiences that not only change and empower students, but also enable us to develop a habit of reflective empathy in our work.

Subject: "Goddess" opens on Thursday
Submitter:
Lori Brandt Hale, Assistant Professor, Religion

Message: Augsburg College will open its doors to the 2006 Minnesota Fringe Festival hit, “Goddess.” Writer/Producer Holly Davis, whose work the Star Tribune has called “funny, unabashed, and unapologetically honest” again succeeds in converting a dense subject into a production that is clever and accessible.

“Goddess” travels from hunter-gatherers to the “DaVinci Code” to the determinedly oblivious modern woman, examining how misinterpretation and politics have buried the feminine divine.

Written and Directed by Holly Davis.

When: 7:30 p.m., Thursday – Saturday, March 22-24 and 29– 30
Where: Hoversten Chapel in Foss Center, Augsburg College
Tickets: $10 general public; $8 ACTC faculty, staff, and students; $6 Augsburg students

Reservations: 612 330-1257.

Subject: Leadership Recognition Nomination
Submitter:
Ebubechukwu Nwazota, Hall Director, New Hall, Residence Life

Message: It is that time of the year when we come together as college to recognize those individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to our community in so many different ways. We recognize excellence, celebrate progress, share accomplishments and as a community take pride in the accomplishments of both individuals and organizations at Augsburg College.

Nomination packets are available in the Campus Activities and Orientation office, the Information Desk, Residence Life office, Public Safety, Vice President of Student Affairs office, Athletics office, Center for Global Education and many other locations on campus displaying the big green 'L' sign. You may also click here to download a packet: www.augsburg.edu/reslife/lrpnominationpacket.pdf

The nomination packet includes awards for both individuals and student organizations. Please review the awards carefully and take the time to nominate students, faculty, staff or student organizations that you feel reflect the necessary criteria. A selection committee comprised of students, faculty, and administrators will review the nominations for award selection. Nominations are due March 29, 2007 by 5 PM

We encourage you to nominate at least one person as a way of saying thank you for the wonderful work they do. All nominees, nominators and award winners will be invited to the Leadership Recognition Banquet on April 19, 2007 at 5 P.M. where all the award winners will be recognized.

Thank you for being a partner in this process! Should have any questions please contact, Ebube Nwazota at x6501 or email nwazota@augsburg.edu
