Subject: Augsburg College ranked in U.S.News & World Report's 'America's Best Colleges 2007'
Submitter: Cherie Christ, Information Technology

Message: The U.S.News & World Report’s annual ranking of "America's Best Colleges" has been published, and Augsburg College is ranked 23rd in the category of Midwestern Universities - Master’s Top Schools. This is a move up from 26th last year. Schools within this category produce a full range of undergraduate and master’s level programs.

For the second year, Augsburg made the “Programs to Look For” list, being one of only 39 schools in the nation to be selected for “First-Year Experiences” and one of 25 in the “Service Learning” category. This list recognizes schools with “outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success.” Augsburg is the only private college in Minnesota recognized in these two categories.

Message: On Saturday August 19 from 12-5 p.m., join artists, musicians, dancers, storytellers and past and current community residents at Bohemian Flats Park (2100 West River Parkway, beneath the Washington Ave Bridge) to remember and celebrate how the West Bank neighborhood has been home to multiple immigrant groups over the decades.

Bohemian Flats Park was home to waves of thriving immigrant communities including Swedes, Slovaks, Bohemians, Danish, Irish and Italians along the banks of the Mississippi River until the 1930's.

This day will celebrate the many diverse cultures of our neighborhood and discuss the history of immigration in our community through art, dance and spoken word.
