Subject: Grades for SSII/III are Due on August 18th

Submitter:
Wayne Kallestad, Registrar, Registrar's Office

Message: GRADES ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE August 18, 2006.

Do not turn in grades late. Late grades cause problems for students requiring the grades for reimbursement, scholarship, graduation and admission to other programs.

GRADE ENTRY SCREEN
* Report a grade for every student on the list (except where - W - is displayed).
* For students from one of the other ACTC colleges, please provide the Registrarās Office with their grade.
* Please enter grades by August 18, 2006 or earlier! PLEASE NO LATE GRADES!
* Please identify students that have stopped attending class and the date of last attendance.

Please contact your departments Liaison for Computing person if you have a question on your PIN. For those needing specific directions, they are available on-line at:

http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/index.html

Click on Faculty Grade Entry Procedures, other useful information can be found by clicking on Registrarās New Faculty Handbook also.

Letter grades (ABCDF) are not used except for ACTC students. The following grading system is in effect:
4.0 Achieves highest standards of excellence
3.5
3.0 Achieves above basic course standards
2.5
2.0 Achieves basic standards for course
1.5
1.0 Performance below basic course standards
0.5
0.0 Unacceptable performance (no credit for the course)
P (2.0 or above) Meets minimum passing standard
N (Below 2.0) Does not meet minimum passing standard (no credit and non-punitive: not computed in grade point average)

If a student fails to report for a final examination, he or she should
receive a grade of 0.0 for that examination when you compute the final grade.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

* An incomplete grade, or - I, should be given only in the case of extreme emergency. To receive an incomplete grade, a student must receive permission of the instructor of the course; must file a form (available in the Enrollment Center or on-line at the above web address) stating the reasons for the request, the work required to complete the course, the plan and date for completing the work, and comments from the instructor; and must return the form to the Registrar's Office by the time grades are due for the term (August 18, 2006).
* The necessary work must be completed in enough time to allow evaluation of the work by the instructor and filing of a grade before the final day of the following Semester.
* If the work is not completed by that date, the grade for the course becomes a 0.0.

DIRECTED STUDY, INDEPENDENT STUDY, OR INTERNSHIP

* If a Directed Study, Independent Study, or Internship is to be extended over a second term, indicate this by a grade of - X. Please remind students receiving an - X - that they are expected to continue communication and demonstrate satisfactory progress with their instructor in order to receive a credit and grade at the end of that term. They must complete the study within one year of their initial registration; after that, a new registration is necessary.

* An - X - grade can only be used for a Directed Study, Independent Study, and Internship unless prior arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.

AUDIT

Please inform the Registrarās Office via email if expectations not met for a student auditing your class. A - V - (audit) is listed on the grade entry screen. If expectations have been met, the course will be listed on the student's record as having been audited. If expectations have not been met, the course will be listed with a grade of - W (withdrawn).

VERY IMPORTANT

Grade are due in the Office of the Registrar no later than August 18, 2006. To comply with Federal Student Aid Regulations: If you have a student that stopped attending your class and you have assigned a grade of 0.0 or - N, please enter the date they last attended your class.

Subject: Student Writing Contest - $150 in prizes!

Submitter:
Melissa M Bawek, Assistant Director of the Augsburg Fund, Development

Message: We need YOUR Augsburg story!

Do you know that scholarships awarded to students are funded in part by the generosity of alumni and benefactors of the college? Do you know that tuition does not cover the complete costs of an Augsburg education and college experience? Do you know where those critical dollars are found?

The answer is The Augsburg Fund. Every year The Augsburg Fund reaches out to alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the college to ask for their help in supporting Augsburg. From scholarships, to the new Si Melby addition and Gateway building, to renovations and campus repairs, donors to The Augsburg Fund are there to help.

But why do they give? Because of YOU the students, and they want to hear your Augsburg story!

The annual fund is looking for your inspiring student Augsburg story to share with our donors. As such, we are conducting a writing contest to solicit your Augsburg story. This writing competition will offer one first-place prize, and ten runner-up selections. Here are the guidelines:

• Maximum of 500 words.
• The writer of the story chosen must be willing to work with our editorial guidance in creating an appeal for our audience.
• The first-place story chosen will receive a $50 gift card to Target, and will be the signator of our Fall 2006 annual fund appeal.
• Runner-up stories will receive a $10 gift card to Target, and will be used for monthly communications to our donors.
• A picture of the writer and their signature will accompany the story.
• Deadline to submit your work: Please email your story to Melissa Bawek at bawek@augsburg.edu by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25th.
• Open to current, enrolled Augsburg students only.
• Winners will be announced by September 5, 2006.

Please contact me if you have any questions either at 612-338-4819 or bawek@augsburg.edu

Subject: Campus Crop Club-Celebrate Life's Magical Moments!

Amy Sutton, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Development

Message: Do you love to take pictures but then find them accumulating in a shoebox or trapped in your digital camera or computer?! Join us Wednesday, August 16th from 5-9 p.m. in the Riverside room in the Christensen Center for our monthly scrapbooking event.

The Campus Crop Club gathers one evening per month for fun and fellowship as we organize our pictures, share ideas and complete pages in our scrapbook albums! Bring your photos (and albums/supplies if you already scrapbook!) Great Creative Memories tools will be available for your use, and products/instruction are available if you want to get started on your own keepsake album.

Not a scrapbooker? Stop in to learn about digital scrapbooking -- amazing new products being launched by Creative Memories this fall to create digital albums and storybooks! We aren't all scrapbookers, but most of us take pictures and if it is a memory worth photographing, isn't it worth preserving?!

Please contact Amy Sutton at 612-338-6533 or suttona@augsburg.edu if you have any questions. You are welcome to join us for all or part of the evening or to just drop in, but please RSVP to Amy if you know you will be there!

Don't miss this opportunity to do something with those boxes of pictures that you never seem to get to!

Submitter:

Message: Purity Ouma's father died earlier this week. Purity is an Augsburg student from Nairobi, Kenya. Services will likely be held in Kenya next week; it is unlikely Purity will be able to attend.

Subject: A Celebration for Karen Lindesmith
Submitter:
John S Schmit, Dean of Adult Programs, Academic and Student Affairs

Message: Please join us for a celebration of Karen Lindesmith's dedicated service to Augsburg's College of the Third Age. When Karen arrived more than 8 years ago it was with intention of staying only 3 years. Thousands of successful COTA seminars later, she has decided to hand off this important program to a successor. The entire Augsburg community has benefited greatly from Karenās time with us.

A farewell reception will be held on Thursday, August 24th from 1-2:00 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room. Everyone is welcome.
