Subject: Scheduled Internet outage Tomorrow 6-6:15 a.m

Submitter:
David Warch, Director of Information Technology Services, Information Technology

Message: On Friday, March 24th, the State of Minnesota (Intertech) will be upgrading networking equipment. This upgrade will occur around 6:00 AM and will cause a brief Internet outage on the Augsburg campus which should last less than 15 minutes. Network access from Crown Roller Mill and the Rochester campus will be unavailable during the upgrade. Access to the Augsburg website and AugNet online services will also be unavailable.

Subject: Assessment of Student learning update

Submitter:
Bridget Robinson-Riegler, Associate Professor, Chair, Psychology

Message: The results of the faculty/staff assessment of student learning survey are available at:

http://www.augsburg.edu/assessment/reports/survey_results/

The file is 05_survey_report_facstaff.pdf

The results of the survey suggest that we seem to have consolidated awareness and understanding of assessment of student learning. It also suggests that resistance to assessment may no longer be our greatest obstacle; availability of information/resources as well as communication from the assessment committee seem to be the current problem. Respondents' perceptions and involvement in assessment remain at the individual and department level rather than at the college level.

The assessment committee would like to thank all members of the Augsburg community who have been actively involved in assessment. Eighty-four percent (38/45) of the departments and programs in the Academic and Student Affairs Division have developed plans for assessment of student learning. Forty-five percent (17/38) of departments and programs with an assessment plan are currently using data to make decisions. Eighteen percent (7/38) are still in the process of collecting data and thirty-seven percent (14/38) have not yet begun to collect data. Sixty-eight percent (26/38) of departments and programs with plans submitted an annual assessment report.

Subject: Augsburg receives leadership grant

Submitter:
Ann L Garvey, Dean of Students, Academic and Student Affairs

Message: Thanks to Carol Forbes for her assistance and great grant writing!
Augsburg College received a grant of $9,000 from the C. Charles Jackson Foundation to support a one year project to analyze the leadership activities currently in place within the co-curricular program on campus and to develop a methodology to ensure that Augsburg students will have a coherent experience in leadership development.

The project will include:
1) a literature review of leadership development theories;
2) an audit of leadership development activities currently in place at Augsburg will be completed and;
3) an analysis will be completed of the current leadership development models currently in use.

The final result will be to promote and implement an "Augsburg Model of Leadership Development."

Subject: Student Use of Public Transit

Submitter:
Thomas S Ruffaner, Day Custodial Supervisor, Custodial Services

Message: The Environmental Concerns Committee is preparing a brochure about the advantages of using public transit for routine transportation needs.
We are particularly interested in how students use the transit system (bus and light rail), why it is a good choice for them, how often students use the system, if students own a car (or not) and what have they have learned (about themselves or the City) as a result of using the transit system.

If you have positive feedback that you would like us to put in this brochure please send your comments to Tom Ruffaner at: ruffaner@augsburg.edu.
