All full and part-time faculty who teach courses that contain a speaking, writing, critical thinking, or quantitative reasoning graduation skill component are required to have attended a "consultation" on the particular skill. For spring semester, faculty members may teach skill courses provided they attend a February session. (If you have attended an appropriate skills consultation in the past it is not necessary to attend again.)

Subject: Nobel Peace Laureate to Speak at Forum

Message: Nobel Peace Laureate (2004), Dr. Wangari Maathai, will be the keynote speaker at the 18th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Forum on Friday afternoon, March 10th. The Forum will be hosted by Luther College, Decorah, IA, March 10-11. Other speakers include Christine Todd Whitman (former governor of New Jersey and chief of the EPA) and Michael Osterhom (internationally recognized expert on bio-terrorism and pandemic outbreaks).

SPEAKERS:

Dr. CYNTHIA MOE-LOBEDA
Trained as an ethicist and theologian, Dr. Moe-Lobeda is Professor of Christian Ethics at Seattle University in Seattle, Washington. She has served as a consultant to the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mark Hanson, on matters of Christian ethics and international relations. She holds a PhD from Union Theological Seminary, New York City. She is the author of Public Church for the Life of the World (2004), Healing a Broken World: Globalization and God (2002) and co-author of Saint Francis and the Foolishness of God(1993) and Say this to the Mountain (1996). She directed the Policy Education Project of the Center for Global Education [Augsburg College] in Washington, DC.

Dr.PRAKASH LOUNGANI
Prakash Loungani is Assistant to the IMF's External Relations Director and also serves as an editor for the IMFās publication IMF Survey. He has also been teaching in the Executive MBA program at Vanderbilt University since 2000. His work experience includes stints at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the University of Florida. Loungani's research interests include: assessment of macroeconomic forecasting performance; understanding trade linkages among nations and regions; modeling the impact of oil prices on the macroeconomy. This research has been published in both academic journals (including Journal of Monetary Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics and International Journal of Forecasting) and in various policy outlets and newspapers (such as Financial Times). He is also a frequent contributor to the IMF's publications-Finance & Development and IMF Survey-on topics such as the effects of globalization, income inequality, and the role and activities of international organizations. Loungani has a B.A. from the University of Bombay and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Rochester.

Message: The first Frame of Mind gathering of the Spring Semester will be meet at Augsburg House on Thursday, February 9th. We will discuss the foundational volume of C.S. Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia" - "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Let's also compare the movie, which is currently in circulation in the Twin Cities, with Lewis' intentions as best we can discover them in the book. We will begin the conversation at 5:00 p.m., stop for dinner at 7:00, and adjourn by 8:00.

Quest 24 will be held February 10-11 at the Riverwood Inn & Conference Center in Albertville, MN. This 24-Hour Retreat will help students unpack their gifts, talents, interests, and values. Fun and creative exercises will be interspersed between hikes, swimming and hot tubbing, and relaxing with friends.

We depart Friday afternoon for Albertville, and will return Saturday afternoon. The Riverwood Inn & Conference Center has very posh amenities. Please register, and tell your friends!

Subject: Busy weekend for Auggie sports!

Message: This weekend will be a busy one for Augsburg sports, with key home events in five winter sports. Show your Auggie Pride and support your student-athletes this weekend!

Tonight (Friday 1/27), Augsburg's wrestling team, ranked No. 2 nationally in Division III, will host the University of Nebraska-Omaha, the No. 1-ranked team in Division II and two-time defending national champions, in a 7 p.m. dual meet at Si Melby Hall. Also, the Augsburg men's hockey team will host league-leader St. Thomas at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

On Saturday (1/28), a home basketball doubleheader against Bethel will start off the day at Si Melby Hall. The women's basketball game will be at 1 p.m., with the men's basketball game at 3:15 p.m. Also, Augsburg's women's hockey team will host St. Thomas in the second game of a weekend series at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

At all the Augsburg home events this weekend, Augsburg's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be sponsoring raffles and giving away prizes during the games.

If you can't make it to the games, several will be available online. Friday's wrestling meet will be available for viewing online on a pay-per-view basis ($6.99) at the Wrestling Mall website (http://www.thewrestlingmall.com/). Friday's men's hockey game and Saturday's women's hockey game will be webcast online (free) on Augsburg's athletic website, via Stretch Internet (http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/liveaudio/), with Tom Witschen on the call.

Message: St. Paul Community Education has an immediate opening for a Spanish instructor to teach an after school Spanish class. The class meets on Tuesday afternnoons from 3:00 p.m.-4:45 p.m. at Chelsea Heights Elementary in St. Paul (corner of Hamline and Huron). The class is for children in grades K-6.
The rate of pay is $20/hour. Interested applicants must be able to speak fluent Spanish and enjoy working with children. Previous experience a plus, but not necessary.
