Subject: Art exhibitions to open this Friday!

Submitter:
Kerry Morgan, Coordinator of Galleries and Exhibits, Art

Message: Two new art exhibitions open this Friday, January 13. Featured in the Gage Gallery is the interactive installation "Borders" by Barbara Claussen that invites visitors to think about boundaries that exist between public and private spaces. In the Christensen Center Art Gallery, "Justice for All?", photographs by Terry Gydesen promises to provoke discussion about equal rights.

The opening receptions for both shows will be Friday, January 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Subject: You've Been Spotted

Submitter:
Marcus Skjervem, Director, Activities and Orientation, Academic and Student Affairs

Message: "You've Been Spotted" is a campaign to encourage students to apply for the 2006 Orientation Leader positions. We have sent the heads of departments, offices and AugSem faculty ten postcards that include a space for a students' name and campus box number on the back. In order to recruit a staff of diverse student leaders, we ask that you take a few minutes to share this with your staff and send the enclosed postcards to students you feel would represent Augsburg College well during our orientation programs this year.

Orientation Leaders are central to the success of Augsburg College‰s First Year Experience initiatives. These positions are designed to create a sense of consistent role modeling while also facilitating social integration to the Augsburg community and beyond. We have enclosed a copy of the Orientation Leader job description for your information.

Please contact Marc Skjervem (x1111 or skjervem@augsburg.edu) if:

1. Your office needs more than 10 postcards
2. Your office did not receive a packet and would like to nominate students.
3. You have any questions regarding the "You've Been Spotted" campaign, Orientation Leader selection, or the Orientation Leader position

Send those postcards out and make sure those students know that "They've Been Spotted!"

Applications Available online: Tuesday, January 17th

Message: Augsburg's Jocelyn Cookson named MIAC Women's Hockey Player of the Week
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/011106cookson.html

MINNEAPOLIS (1/11/06) -- Augsburg College women's hockey forward Jocelyn Cookson (Sr., Edina, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Cookson scored four goals in a nonconference series split with Neumann (Pa.) over the weekend. In Friday's 7-3 loss to Neumann, Cookson scored an unassisted goal in the second period and added a goal in the third. In Saturday's 4-3 victory, Cookson scored twice in a 2:44 span early in the second period, including a power-play goal that gave the Auggies a 3-1 lead.

The MIAC Player of the Week honor is the third in Cookson's two seasons with the Auggies; she earned the honor twice last season, in addition to earning All-MIAC first-team honors and U.S. College Hockey Online Division III National Player of the Week honors.

Cookson transferred to Augsburg after playing her first two seasons at the Division I University of Wisconsin. She now has 41 career points (25 goals, 16 assists) in 52 collegiate games, including 33 points (22 goals, 11 assists) in 26 Augsburg games.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play this weekend with a two-game series against St. Catherine. Friday's (1/13) game is at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, and Saturday's (1/14) game is at 12:05 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
