His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to keynote Peace Prize Forum on March 1

WHO and WHAT: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet on March 1 will deliver the keynote speech at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. His Holiness, the spiritual leader of Tibetans and Buddhists worldwide, will speak on topics of faith, peace, and human values.

BACKGROUND: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk. He is the spiritual leader of Tibet who, at age two, was recognized as the reincarnation of the previous Dalai Lama. His Holiness received the Nobel Peace Prize during 1989 for advocating “peaceful solutions based upon tolerance and mutual respect in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of his people.”

The Nobel Peace Prize Forum (peace.augsburg.edu) is a premier international event designed to inspire peacemaking. Now in its 26th year, the NPPF celebrates the work of Peace Prize Laureates and deeply explores questions of peace and conflict. This year, the NPPF addresses issues in faith and peace, law and business, health and science, and global issues. The program is housed and coordinated by Augsburg College in partnership with the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the School of Public Health, and the five Norwegian Lutheran colleges of Augsburg, Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD), Concordia College (Moorhead), Luther College (Decorah, IA) and St. Olaf College (Northfield). RELATED EVENTS:His Holiness will be in the Twin Cities as part of the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. During his visit he also will preside over a March 2 celebration of the Tibetan New Year being held at Augsburg and at a private event at Macalester College.
