Hot Button Topics on College Campuses - March 30
Faculty, students and staff are invited to a lively and productive discussion about "Navigating Hot Button Topics" with Harry Boyte and others from the Sabo Center.
Building on conversations initiated by Doug Green, Jacqueline deVries and others at Augsburg, we will hear about people's experiences with controversies in teaching, discuss the current debates about free speech, "coddling," and "safe spaces," and look at what an approach based on civic agency and "free spaces" might contribute. We hope this contributes to a growing public culture of exchange and learning on the campus about these questions, which are central to our education and democratic purposes.
Navigating Hot Topics: The Civic Agency Approach to Constructive Engagement and Discussion
Next Wednesday, March 30
9:00-10:30 a.m.
Marshall Room, Christensen Center

Reading the Echo in Arizona: Archives Online
Brown-bag Presentation
Wednesday 30 March 2016
Noon to 1 p.m.
Riverside Room, Christensen Center
Lindell Library holds many treasures of Augsburg's shared history: The Echo student newspaper, back to 1898; the Augsburgian yearbook, starting in 1916; and Augsburg Now and its alumni-publication ancestors. All these and more are part of the Archives' physical collection. But what if you want to go beyond paper and page through, say, the 1983 Augsburgian -- in your office, at home, or on vacation? Thanks to the library's Digital Initiative Project, begun by librarian Bill Wittenbreer in 2013, you can read many of your favorite Augsburg publications online anywhere, and more are being added all the time. Want to know more? Of course you do! Faculty and staff (and the wider Augsburg community) are invited to Bill's informative session on exploring our new Archives webpage, http://library.augsburg.edu/archives/ , and all the ways you can access our digital collections. Bring your lunch, and your curiosity!

Renew Your FAFSA by May 1
It's that time again! The FAFSA application for the 2016-2017 year is now available for students returning to Augsburg for the 2016-2017 academic year. The FAFSA is the application required to determine your eligibility for access to financial aid during your time at Augsburg, and must be renewed every year.
May 1st is the deadline to apply for financial aid at Augsburg. All Day College students must submit their application by this date or risk losing some of the aid that may be available to you.
File your taxes early to ensure that you can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing your FAFSA this year. This function pre-populates your tax information into the application, which reduces your chances of being selected for verification later on. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is available for use on the FAFSA 2-3 weeks after electronically filing your taxes, and 6-8 weeks after filing paper taxes.
If you'd like some help filling out your FAFSA, feel free to attend one of the following FAFSA workshops!
- Wednesday, April 6; 2:30-3:30 p.m. in SVE 201
- Thursday, April 14; 12:30-1:30 p.m. in SVE 201
- Tuesday, April 19; 4:00-5:00 p.m. in SVE 201
Questions? Stop by the Enrollment Center and speak with any of our Student Financial Services Counselors or call us at 612-330-1046.

Steps to follow when hiring a student worker for summer 2016
1. Students returning into a position they held previously will only need a Student Employment Hire Form submitted through Hirezon/Interview Exchange.
2. Looking for a student worker to hire? Any new position will need to be posted through Human Resources to the internal student jobs board. Student Requisitions can be submitted though Hirezon/Interview Exchange. Once it's submitted, we will post the position online. Hiring managers will be able to view applications in real time through the system.
3. When you've selected a student to hire, complete the Student Employment Hire Form through Hirezon/Interview Exchange. Students who have never worked on campus before will need to fill out additional HR forms, including a background check, before they will be authorized to work.
