Systems Thinking Workshop - March 9

The Sabo Center for Democracy and Citizenship is proud to sponsor a workshop on systems thinking. Dr. Nishesh Chalise, assistant professor of social work at Augsburg, will lead this session. The goal is to use systems thinking to explore the ways in which Augsburg College and the community are interlinked with each other.

Final Lunch & Learn is Wed., March 9

Do you ever wonder how Augsburg assesses student learning? Are you curious about the recent data? Come to the next Lunch & Learn and find answers. Faculty and staff are invited to grab lunch in the Commons (it's on us!) and join Kristin Chamberlain in the Augsburg Room for an informal presentation on our most recent institutional assessment data and to continue the conversation on assessment.

March 9: Physician Assistant Info Session

Join URGO for a panel-style information session discussing physician assistant (PA) school applications. Hear from representatives of the Augsburg PA Program as well as recent alumni. Alumni will speak on topics such as picking schools, creating an application timeline, personal statements, and preparing for interviews. Food will be provided.

Great Colleges to Work For Survey: Participate

As previously announced, Augsburg College is participating in the 2016 Great Colleges to Work For survey. The last day to respond to the survey will be Friday, March 4. Eligible participants will receive an email from ModernThink which will contain a survey invitation and link to the survey.

Important things to note:
- Survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
- Your responses to the survey will be completely confidential. ModernThink LLC, an independent survey firm, will not provide Augsburg College with any information that would enable us to trace survey data back to any one individual.
- Your participation is very valuable and desired, but voluntary.

Human Resources recognizes that many members of our community have work that does not require use of a computer, or who may not have a dedicated office. We will be hosting computer lab sessions for employees to ask any questions they might have, get assistance with the process, and complete the survey.

These sessions are scheduled at the following dates and times:
March 4 --10:00-11:00 a.m., Sverdrup Hall, Room 205

Friday
Einstein's is open from 7:30am-8:00pm, with the Late Night Menu starting at 7:00pm.
Nabo is open from 7:30am-7:00pm, with Hot Food starting at 10:00am.
The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm.

Saturday
Einstein's is open from 7:30am-5:00pm.
Nabo is open from 10:00am-2:00pm
The Commons is open from 11:30am-1:00pm for Brunch and from 5:00pm-7:00pm for Dinner.

Sunday
Einstein's is Closed.
Nabo is Closed.
The Commons is open from 11:30am-1:00pm for Brunch and from 5:00pm-7:00pm for Dinner.

Spring Break
On Friday, March 11, All Food Service Locations will be closing at 1:30pm. Nabo will be closed from Saturday March 12th-Sunday March 20th. The Commons will be closed from Saturday March 12th-Saturday March 19th, The Commons will be opening for Dinner on Sunday March 20th. Einstein's will be open over Spring Break Monday-Friday from 7:30am-1:30pm, with a condensed menu.

Last Chance To Apply T Be An Interfaith Scholar

Attention current sophomores and juniors:

Want to engage in dialog with people of different faiths and make a difference at Augsburg and in the wider community? Will you be studying on campus all of next year? Consider becoming an Interfaith Scholar.

Interfaith Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (407/408) on interfaith dialog and action led by Professor Matt Maruggi and Pastor Sonja Hagander, earn 4 upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Students from a variety of traditions as well as the non-religious are invited to apply in order to converse respectfully with others about what they believe, why it matters, and how it propels us to service in the world. We are looking for students who want to work as Augsem Student Leaders next Fall Semester. You will work with the faculty member assigned to the Augsem course and help new first-year students transition to Augsburg during their first semester on campus. The position requires 2-4 hours per week.

Augsburg MFA Hosts Minnesota Book Awards Judging

As a sponsor of the annual Minnesota Book Awards, the Augsburg MFA in Creative Writing program will host the final judging for the 2016 Minnesota Book Awards on Saturday, March 5. The award ceremony will be on April 16th at the Saint Paul Union Depot.

Last Chance To Apply To Be A Christensen Scholar

DEADLINE TO APPLY: FRIDAY, MARCH 4

Attention current sophomores and juniors:

Interested in exploring life's big questions? Will you be studying on campus all of next year? Consider becoming a Christensen Scholar.

Christensen Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (REL 405/406) led by Professor Mark Tranvik, earn four upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship. The 2016-17 seminar will explore great stories of faith. It is designed for those with a lively sense of curiosity and a desire to talk about "big questions" involving God, evil, doubt, salvation, and vocation.

Event Announcements

Driving Under the Influence

EPI!C Peer Health Educators are hosting an evening of education and interaction on Wednesday 3/9/16 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Student Lounge on the topic of the Cost of DUI. We will have a state trooper available to simulate being pulled over for DUI and the different field sobriety tests they do and we will also have a representative from AAA who will be discussing impaired driving as it relates to prescription drugs, texting, etc. We will also hear from a current Augsburg student about the true cost of having a DUI on your record.

Please join us for food, a prize drawing and an informative evening as we get ready for spring break week.

Spring Blood Drive Next Wednesday 3/9

There are still many opportunities for Auggies to help save lives by signing up to donate blood on Wednesday 3/9/16 when Memorial Blood Center will be on campus for the annual spring blood drive. The blood drive will be from 10 - 4 p.m. in the East Commons.

There are several ways to get your donation time.

2. Call the CWC office at 612-330-1707 to get a time
3. Stop by the table in Christensen Center between 11:30 - 1:00 pm Friday (TODAY!) to sign up.

Art Club Trip to Northern Clay Center

Art Club is hosting a field trip to the Northern Clay Center at 4:30PM Tuesday the 8th. We will have a tour and maybe even throw a little clay for fun. We will meet in Old Main 6 at 4:00 pm and then promptly walk to Northern Clay.

Art Club Art Sale - Support Local Art! 3/10 @ 5:30

The Augsburg Art Club is hosting it's first annual Art Sale! Original artwork created by Augsburg students will be on sale from March 6th to the 31st in the Fish Bowl Gallery. To purchase art on the spot, please attend our reception on March 10th from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Fish Bowl Gallery. If you are unable to attend the reception, head on over to the Fish Bowl anytime during the show for more information, or contact Devin Johnston at johnston@augsburg.edu. Artwork will range in price from $10-$50, cash or check only. We hope to see you there!

Jane Addams School Brown Bag

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to a Brown Bag event on Monday, March 7 from 12:30-1:30 in the Augsburg Room about the Jane Addams School for Democracy. Staff and students involved in the Jane Addams School will share about Jane Addams School practices, such as bilingual dialogs and educational work across languages. The Cedar Riverside Jane Addams School meets every Monday from 4-6 p.m. in the Common Table.

8th Traditional Powwow - April 2

Augsburg College 8th Traditional Powwow will be held Saturday, April 2, here at Augsburg in the Si Melby Gymnasium.

Grand Entries (beginning of a dancing session) will be at 1 PM and 6 PM, however dancing/ceremony will be all day until roughly 9 PM. Honoring for Augsburg American Indian Graduates will be at 3:00 PM. A Gathering for American Indian Alumni will be held at 4:30 PM and Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue Aztec Dancers will join us at 5:30 PM.

You are welcome to come, bring you family and friends, purchase some craft items from our vendors, come support our American Indian students here at Augsburg by showing up and learning about our rich culture and traditions at our hosted Powwow.
