Affordable Care Act/MNSure Open Enrollment Time

The Affordable Care Act requires individuals to have health insurance. The state health exchange, MNsure, assists Minnesota residents find and enroll in a health insurance plan, through the MN exchange plans.

Augsburg alumna and healthcare navigator, Celia Hernandez-Payan, will provide a Spanish info session for students and parents on Saturday, November 21 from 9:30-11 a.m. This session will highlight healthcare and insurance options for individuals and families regardless of immigration status. Jennie Diaz to Present at Diversity Dialogue

On November 20 from 12:00-1:30 in 355 Peik Hall at the University of MN, Dr. Jennie Diaz, assistant professor of Education, will present a talk entitled Math for All? The Paradox of Inclusion and Inequity in Elementary School Mathematics as part of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction's Diversity Dialogues.

Wellness Program: Feel Good by Doing Good

In November Augsburg Total Wellness will be sponsoring a food drive to help fill the shelves of the Augsburg Campus Cupboard. The Augsburg College food shelf, Campus Cupboard, provides free food to students throughout the year. The Campus Cupboard, which opened in February 2013, is the work of partnership between faculty, staff, and students who originally came together as part of the Fighting Poverty at Augsburg special interest group and the Creating an Inclusive Campus conference. The food shelf is supported by Campus Kitchen at Augsburg, A'viands, and the Thrivent Leadership Fellows.

Donations will be accepted in the office of Human Resources November 16th through November 20th.

Needed donations include: canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats (fish, chicken, salmon), beans, canned soup (or dry instant soup), peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta, oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, crackers, nuts, and toiletry items

As an added incentive you may be eligible for a $50 HSA contribution or entry into a prize drawing. To be eligible for incentives you must donate a minimum of 20 items and have not already received $200 in Wellness related HSA contributions.

Want to Lead a Short-Term Program? Apply by 12/19

Faculty interested in leading a short-term study abroad program in 2016-2017 must submit a proposal by December 19, 2015. More information is available at www.augsburg.edu/global - look under Resources for faculty and staff. At this URL, faculty can review the application itself, along with an informational packet that addresses common questions related to location, cost, marketing, and roles/responsibilities.

Faculty are also welcome to submit for 2017-2018! While firm decisions regarding 2017-2018 proposals will not be made during this cycle; they will be reviewed and, when possible, given preference for acceptance during the next cycle.

Paid Internships in China

Augsburg graduates and graduating seniors (May 2016) are invited to apply for a one-academic year Internship at UIC. Applications for the Intern position must be completed and submitted to UIC's International Development Office no later than the 14th of February 2016.

Requirements for the Application include:

1. Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in any relevant programme.

2. A full transcript of academic work completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

3. Two letters of recommendation from academic staff supporting the application.

4. A full personal resume including an expression of interest in a position in a specific programme which is offered as a major at UIC. The applicant should articulate the skills and experience he/she would bring to this specific area of the UIC academic programme. General Education is also a viable academic area in which to pursue an Intern position. See the following website for more information on the academic curriculum at UIC: http://uic.edu.hk/en/

5. Additional information of activities, working experiences, travel and special strengths including computer/technology skills which are important in assuming the role of an Intern.

6. Agreement to enroll in a specially designed "Chinese Language, Culture, History and Development Programme"(see Compensation for the Intern Position at UIC below for details) offered by the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture (CLC) at UIC during their year of residence at UIC.

7. An interview conducted by the Director of International Education at the home institution in which the applicant is enrolled. It is the applicant's responsibility to schedule this interview with the Director of International Education at his/her home institution.


Compensation for the Intern position at UIC:

1. A monthly housing allowance (RMB1000, for example, for shared apartments at Horizon Cove) will be granted; health insurance; and a round-trip economy air ticket from home country to China of up to RMB11, 000 on a reimbursement basis (the China-home country ticket is given upon successful completion of contract) and ferry or bus fare from airport of arrival to Zhuhai;

2. A monthly stipend of RMB 6000 ($950 US) is paid from assumption of duties in August/September to the end of June. During this period Interns are involved in assigned duties and organizing activities (see requirements and responsibilities of Interns below).

3. A "Chinese Language, Culture, History and Development Programme" consisting of (a) two Chinese language classes of 3 hours weekly in both semesters; (b) lectures/seminars on Chinese culture, history and development at fortnightly intervals, 2 to 3 hours each, 3 to 4 times per semester; and (c) 2-4 visits to historical sites and museums in nearby locations to appreciate the great depth of Chinese history and culture.

Mesa de Conversación

Join us to practice Spanish in a relaxed and fun setting! Formally the Spanish Conversation Group, Mesa de Conversación will meet on Thursdays from 11:30-1:00pm on the 2nd floor of the Christensen Center. This week we meet in the Cedar Room. Our relaxed and friendly gatherings are a place where you can meet new people, practice your Spanish & learn about culture. All levels are welcome! Come for 10 mins. or for the whole session, whatever works for you. Feel free to bring your lunch. Questions? Mindfulness Group for Students Starts Wednesday

Open your mind and manage your stress. A mindfulness and meditation group for students only will be starting on Wednesday 11/18 for four weeks. The group will meet from 10:45-12 noon at the Center for Wellness and Counseling office.

Augsburg Model UN

Students interested in participating in the Augsburg Model UN program are invited to submit applications to Prof. Underhill by Dec. 1. The program is academically demanding, and open to any students interested in foreign relations and the work of the United Nations. The delegation will travel to New York City from Mar. 19-26, 2016 to represent Yemen at the annual National Model United Nations Conference.

Students accepted into the program must enroll in POL 368, and begin preparation for the conference in December. A program fee applies, but the college subsidizes travel costs for participants. To obtain an application or for more information, please emailunderhil@augsburg.edu. Faculty and staff are encouraged to invite students with interest in this area to apply.
