Fall Internship Registration

The deadline for fall internship registration is Monday, September 14th. If you have an internship for the fall term that you would like to register, please complete the following steps:

* Academic Internships for 2 or 4 credits: http://www.augsburg.edu/strommen/internships/internship-registration/
* Non-credit internships for Augsburg Experience only: http://www.augsburg.edu/strommen/internships/non-credit-internships/

Students who wish to register an internship for fall term must also attend one of the following internship orientation/registration sessions in the Strommen Center (Christensen Center, Suite 100). Students with an internship seminar course (i.e. PSY400, SOC399, BUS397/399) do NOT need to attend this session, all other students are required to attend one of these sessions:

* Thursday, September 3rd at 4:00pm
* Friday, September 4th at 11:00am
* Tuesday September 8th at 9:30am
* Thursday September 10th at 2:30pm
* Friday, September 11th at 8:15am & 3:00pm

Play Ball - At Least See Where It Is Played

Thursday, September 10, 5-7 p.m.

Faculty and Staff, join us for the first CTL event of the year. This event will introduce participants to two local institutions as well as provide time to get better acquainted with colleagues.

Professor Kristin Anderson of the Art Department will lead us on a behind-the-scenes tour of Target Field. The tour will include the Roof Deck, Metropolitan Club, Legends Club, Press Box, Champions Club, and the Visitor's Clubhouse. The tour will start and end at Gate 6, right next to the light rail platform. After the tour, we'll head to the Fulton Brewery for some social time. CTL will pay for the tour, but not (sorry) the Fulton beverages.

Gradebook Workshop Today

Take advantage of our last open session this week to help you set up, organize and fine-tune your Moodle gradebook to align with your syllabus.

The Moodle gradebook enables you to:
* Integrate all graded activities (including in-class assessments)
* Provide students immediate, private, and formative assessment
* Reduce time addressing student questions about grades
* Reuse the grading setup the next time you offer the course

Location: Lindell Library 301

When: Thursday (September 3) 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Walk-ins are welcome. You will receive support from a member of our E-Learning Team. Come and go when you can, but plan on allocating approximately 30 minutes. Bring your laptop if you like, but we will have technology available if you don't.

Vege is serving Boiled Baby Reds with Vegan Pesto, Garlic Kale, Vegan Pasta with Alfredo and Vegan Chicken Strips, and Diced Sweet Potatoes with Banana and Walnut.

New Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program

It is with great pride that I announce the launch of Augsburg College’s first Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program. The Certificate Program is designed to help faculty and staff continue to grow in their intercultural competence and to build the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to create more inclusive spaces inside and outside of the classroom. The Certificate Program offers participants the opportunity to further develop skills necessary for diversity and inclusion work, access to cross-culturally valid assessment tools, direct experience effectively communicating across differences, and a better understanding of institutionally-based bias and microaggressions faced by marginalized communities.

In order to complete the Certificate Program and receive the certificate, participants must complete 18 hours of inclusion-based training. After participants complete the program, they have the option of completing an additional 6 hours to earn advanced standing in the Program. Certificate Program participants will receive their certificate at the end of the academic year in which their program was completed and will be recognized at either the Annual Faculty Recognition Luncheon or the Annual Staff Appreciation Awards and the Annual May Creating an Inclusive Campus Conference.

Staff Senate Seeks Nominees by September 10

Staff Senate seeks awesome Auggies.

Be engaged in the Augsburg community by serving on Staff Senate. If you’d like to become a senator or nominate a colleague, send your candidates to staffsenate@augsburg.edu by September 10. Online elections will take place September 15-21. The purpose of this election is to fill a single Staff Senate position.

All nominees will be verified before being placed on election ballot. An email will be sent to all Augsburg staff with a link to the online election survey on September 15. Staff will have until September 21 to take the survey. Successful candidate will be notified by September 23.

Staff Senate Membership

Augsburg College Staff Senate (ACSS) is composed of six members who are nominated and elected by their peers for a two-year term and two at-large members to be chosen, in every instance, by ACSS. All ACSS members have the option to serve a third year.

Election Procedures

Nomination and Voting Rights: Nominations are collected through e-mail and ballots are gathered from all staff through an online survey (staff eligible to vote are all permanent full- and part-time staff people 0.1+ not including union, MMEP, or temps). ACSS members are eligible to vote. Composition of ACSS: It is recommended that members be at least .75 FTE, regardless of exempt or non-exempt status.

Career Quick Stop Hours

The Strommen Career and Internship Center will be holding Career Quick Stop weekly. These walk-in hours are meant for quick career questions and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Simply check-in at Career & Internship Services (Christensen Center, Suite 100) during the Career Quick Stop times: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:30-4:00 p.m.

This powerful and landmark documentary "The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking The Domination Code" is a result of the collaborative efforts by Dakota filmmaker and Director Sheldon Wolfchild and Co-Producer Steven Newcomb (Shawnee, Lenape). The film, based on Newcomb’s thirty years of research, and his book Pagans in the Promised Land: Decoding the Doctrine of Christian Discovery (Fulcrum, 2008), brings to the big screen an amazing and little known story:

The first Christian people to locate lands inhabited by non-Christians ("infidels, heathens, and savages") claimed the right to assert a right of domination to be in themselves. On the basis of this religiously premised argument, the U.S. Supreme Court has defined the land title of the Indian nations as a "mere right of occupancy" subject to a right of domination on the part of the United States. The first "Christian people" that claimed "ultimate dominion," said the Supreme Court, could grant away the soil while yet it was still in the possession of the "natives, who were heathens."

The film calls upon the Holy See at the Vatican to revoke the papal decrees that set into motion the domination system, and points out that the values and teachings of original nations are a sacred path for all Life.
