Assessment Understanding and Guidance Series - AUG

The Augsburg College Assessment Committee is committed to offering a variety of interactive, informational workshops and sessions, tutorials, slide presentations, and guidance, so educators and staff can learn more about assessment at convenient times that fit their schedules. Following a phased approach to assessment discovery and fulfillment, the assessment introductory AUGS Rollout Workshop will introduce and detail assessment findings from the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Rollout Workshop session will be conveniently offered on the following dates:

TODAY,Thursday, November 13 from 10:15 to11:15 am in OGC 100
Monday, November 17 from 4:45 50 5:45 p.m. in OGC 100

The Rollout Workshop will:

• Provide an overview of assessment and its role in building college readiness and student learning development
• Walk faculty and staff through recent assessment discoveries
• Engage faculty and staff in interpreting what assessment findings indicate
• Provide an overview of future assessment offerings

Academic Year Research Grants Available

Each fall URGO offers $1,000 research grants for students who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. These grants require 100 hours of research over the course of the academic year and are a great way to ease into research or to continue work on an existing project. These grants go quickly, so apply SOON!

Applications for Academic-Year Research Grants are accepted on a rolling basis. To apply, complete the electronic application at http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/research/on-campus-research/. Mentor approval for projects is shown by emailing the application and report form to urgo@augsburg.edu.

Improving Student Engagement Through Feedback

Join CTL, e-learning specialist Bonnie Tensen, and the academic LFCs for a workshop that addresses common pedagogical issues through technology. This workshop will provide faculty with tools for increasing student preparedness for class, decreasing students' confusion about grading processes, and improving students' understanding of classroom policies. Faculty will also have the opportunity to discuss their own pedagogical needs and ask about available tools.

Get Paid To Do an Internship - Apply Today

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant recently awarded to Augsburg College. Augsburg has recently been awarded a Great Lakes Career Ready Grant. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.5+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Internships will take place Spring and Summer 2015

Nabo is open from 7:30am to 8:00pm. The Special of the Day is a Beef and American Cheese Melt.

Einstein's is open from 7:30am-9:00pm, with the late night menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Chicken with Herbs & Roasted Garlic, Basmati Rice, Roasted Baby Red Potatoes, and Broccoli with Spicy Crunch. Vege is serving Broccoli Gingered, Couscous Almond Currant, Potato Fries House Seasoned, and Toasted Brussel Sprouts with Masala Spice.

The Strommen Career and Internship Services is hosting two upcoming on-campus events for students.

1) Auggies Connect with Employers
Thursday, November 20th (Informal meet and greet)
3-5, Suite 100, Christensen Center
All majors are welcome, however, those majoring in business, marketing and communications are strongly encouraged.

Come and stay for as long as you would like. Ask representatives from The Creative Group, Walser Automotive, Ameriprise Financial, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, Target Stores and Target Corporation questions on your job or internship search and/or have your resume critiqued.

2) Practice "Mock" Interviews with Employers (Communications & All Business Majors)

Registration will open in late November.

Students will register for 60 minute practice interviews (30-40 minute interview and 20 minute feedback). This is a wonderful opportunity to practice your interview skills and receive feedback from employers.

The Focused Conversations series continues next week, with discussions MONDAY and THURSDAY about the design and principles for the planned Center for Science, Business, and Religion.
