Penumbra Workshop Follow-up Discussion

In October, Penumbra Theatre conducted their RACE workshop on campus. Faculty and staff are invited to build upon that work as we move toward being an even more inclusive campus. Regardless of whether or not you attended the workshop, CTL would like to invite you to keep the discussion moving forward. Matt Maruggi and Joyce Miller will facilitate a discussion on November 11 from 3:40-4:40 p.m. in SVE 202. We hope you can join us.

CLASS Office Brown Bag Forum

On Thursday, November 13, please join Kathy McGillivray, the new director of the CLASS office, and Disability Specialists for a brown bag forum. This will be an opportunity to discuss questions, concerns, and best practices for accommodating students with disabilities in your classes. We will gather in Lindell 202 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Academic Year Research Grants Available

Each fall URGO offers $1,000 research grants for students who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. These grants require 100 hours of research over the course of the academic year and are a great way to ease into research or to continue work on an existing project. These grants go quickly, so apply SOON!

Applications for Academic-Year Research Grants are accepted on a rolling basis. To apply, complete the electronic application at http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/research/on-campus-research/. Mentor approval for projects is shown by emailing the application and report form to urgo@augsburg.edu.

2015 Annual Benefit Enrollment

The annual benefit enrollment period will be from November 10-November 21. Open Enrollment Information Sessions will be in the Marshall Room of Christensen Center.

Information session schedule:

November 12 at 8:30 am

November 18 at 2:45 pm
November 21 at 12:00 pm

Representatives from HealthPartners, OptumHealth and Hays will be at the information sessions to answer any questions you might have about our plan offerings for 2015. Please plan to attend to learn what you need to do to enroll and/or make changes to your current benefit elections. We look forward to seeing you there.

Enrollment must be completed online. Once you have successfully completed your benefit enrollment for your health, dental, HSA and FSA elections a confirmation notice will be sent to your Augsburg email address. To make changes or enroll in Supplemental Life and AD&D insurance coverages you must complete the SunLife application for supplemental coverages and submit to the office of Human Resources no later than 4 pm on November 21.

Due to a slight plan design change your 2014 plan elections will not carry over into 2015. If enrollment is not completed by the deadline, your plan coverage will end on December 31, 2014.

NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship

We are pleased to provide you with information concerning the 2014-15 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

We encourage you to apply for this scholarship if you:
* are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
* can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within your major area; and
* show an interest in contributing to NASA's mission.

This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2015. Students from traditionally under-represented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply.

Attention current sophomores and juniors: Are you energized about the idea of being called to serve your neighbors? Curious about how your talents and gifts can inform your career decision making? Interested in exploring purpose, meaning, and vocation in a practical way? Looking for a PAID work/internship experience for Spring 2015?

If so, we invite you to consider applying to be a Christensen Intern for spring semester. Christensen Interns will explore connections between purpose, meaning, and careers while interning at a local faith-based nonprofit organization and participating in bi-weekly seminars. The Commons is open from 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Market Place is serving Cheese Burgers, French Fries, Green Bean Sesame, and Sweet Potato Mash. Vege is serving Horseradish Potatoes, Rice with Lime & Cilantro, Carrots with Sesame dressing, and Garden Black Bean Burgers.

Augsburg College and TIAA-CREF has added additional individual counseling sessions for faculty and staff. These sessions are being held at no cost to you. At the individual meetings You can discuss your financial situation with an experienced TIAA-CREF Financial Consultant on a confidential basis. They are available to discuss how to pursue your financial goals, plan for retirement, and invest in financial products such as mutual funds, brokerage, life insurance and annuities.

Vocation Lunch for Faculty and Staff - Nov. 19

The Christensen Center for Vocation is pleased to invite Augsburg Faculty and Staff to our fall Vocation Lunch with Dr. Phil Quanbeck II on Wednesday, November 19 at 11:10 a.m.

Dr. Phil Quanbeck II will be speaking about, "'The Truth Will Make You Free': Voice and Callings at Augsburg". Quanbeck has taught in the Religion Department at Augsburg for over 20 years. He is also an ordained Lutheran pastor and married to Augsburg alum, Ruth Johnson, who is a doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Any Augsburg staff or faculty may register for the event.

Give to the Max Team Members Needed

As we get closer to Augsburg's Give to the Max Day online giving event on Thursday November 13th, we are looking to gather wonderful individuals such as yourself to create a dynamic GTTMD Team that
can take over the Christensen Center with excitement for philanthropy and the giving spirit!

We are asking for a minimum of a 30 minute shift, with room for additional shifts at your convenience.

Auggies Connect w/ Employers - Nov. 20

The Strommen Career and Internship Services is hosting two upcoming on-campus events for students.

1) Auggies Connect with Employers
Thursday, November 20th (Informal meet and greet)
3-5, Suite 100, Christensen Center
All majors are welcome, however, those majoring in business, marketing and communications are strongly encouraged.

Come and stay for as long as you would like. Ask representatives from The Creative Group, Walser Automotive, Ameriprise Financial, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, Target Stores and Target Corporation questions on your job or internship search and/or have your resume critiqued.

2) Practice "Mock" Interviews with Employers (Communications & All Business Majors)

Registration will open in late November.

Students will register for 60 minute practice interviews (30-40 minute interview and 20 minute feedback). This is a wonderful opportunity to practice your interview skills and receive feedback from employers.
