Two Scholarly Writing Retreats - Save the Dates

Faculty: do you wish you had uninterrupted time to write/work on scholarship? If so, you will want to take advantage of the annual Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat. This year's retreat will take place May 18-20 at the Dunrovin Retreat Center. More information will be provided and reservations will be accepted later this semester. For now, mark your calendars and get ready to write!

For faculty who are interested in finding uninterrupted time to work on scholarship but cannot make it to Dunrovin, CTL is currently planning an on-campus scholarly writing retreat. This retreat will be scheduled soon so please watch A-mail for an announcement. Again, get ready to write!

Professional Travel Funds

The Faculty Development Committee is pleased to announce that the Center for Teaching and Learning will have limited travel funds available for the remainder of the fiscal year. If you have plans to travel to a professional conference or workshop between now and May 31st, please submit your travel request before March 14th. The Committee will consider proposals in the order received and notify the community when the funds have been depleted. Faculty/staff may apply for the following:

* Up to $1000 for full-time faculty (or those in phased retirement) or $400 for staff who are presenters, moderators, discussants, organizers, etc.
* Up to $700 for full-time faculty and $200 for staff who attend a conference or workshop/seminar.
* Up to a proportionate share of the full-time award for part-time or adjunct faculty who have a half-time or greater teaching load.

Professional Travel Application forms can be found on the CTL website under "Grant Applications."

Please also note that Provost Kaivola and the Faculty Development Committee are working on providing clear guidelines and a timetable for the dissemination of CTL funds for the following fiscal year. Please watch for an announcement later this spring.

It is time for you to find the Augsburg College Writing Lab! Tutors can help with any writing task you may have. You will find the Lab on the street level of Lindell Library, left of the circulation desk.
Here are the hours:

Monday: 11:10 a.m.-1:40 p.m.; 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30-3 p.m.; 3:30-6 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30-6:00 p.m.; 6:30-9 p.m.
Thursday: 12:30-3 p.m.; 3:30-6 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30-7 p.m.
Sunday: 5-8 p.m.

Nothing to do over spring break? Looking for volunteer hours? Need extra credits for class?

These awards recognize student leaders and student groups for their innovative and outstanding leadership during the academic year. Mpls. Campus Building Accessibility Audits

The Accessibility at Augsburg Committee invites campus community members to help with physical accessibility audits for five buildings on the Minneapolis campus.

We have self-audits set up for five buildings. Each group is capped at 10. Please go to:

MITCH PEARLSTEIN
Pearlstein, PhD, is founder and president of Center of the American Experiment, a nonpartisan, tax-exempt, public policy and educational institution which brings conservative and free market ideas to bear on the hardest problems facing Minnesota and the nation. Pearlstein served two years in the U.S. Department of Education during the Reagan and Bush administrations.

DANE SMITH
Since 2007, Smith has been president of Growth and Justice, a nonpartisan policy research and advocacy organization focused on achieving a more inclusive prosperity for Minnesota, and supporting investments and policies that foster both business growth and economic justice. Smith's career includes 30 years as a journalist for the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press, where he developed a solid reputation reporting and writing about state, local, and federal government and politics.

This Symposium is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters Minnesota.

Ben Stroud Reading, Thursday, March 6

ACTC presents writer Ben Stroud, who will read from his work on Thursday, March 6, 7 p.m., at the Augsburg College Barnes & Noble bookstore. Stroud's short story collection "Byzantium" won the 2012 Bread Loaf Writers' Conference Bakeless Fiction Prize and was published by Graywolf in 2013. The book was selected as a Best Summer Book by the Chicago Tribune and Publisher's Weekly, and as a Best Book of the Month by Amazon. Free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and signing.
