Upcoming Holidays and Floating Holiday

The following days are paid holidays for benefit-eligible staff. College offices will be CLOSED to the public on these days. Temporary/stipend employees and student workers are not eligible for paid holidays.

Thursday, 11/28/13 (Thanksgiving)
Friday, 11/29/13 (Day after Thanksgiving)
Tuesday, 12/24/13 (Christmas Eve Day)
Wednesday, 12/25/13 (Christmas Day)
Wednesday, 1/01/14 (New Year's Day)

As was announced earlier this spring, the College no longer offers "gift" days or "President holidays." Instead, the College added two paid holidays this year. This increased the total number of designated and floating holidays to 12 annually. One of the holidays was utilized on July 5; the other holiday for 2013 is a floating holiday for use during December. This floating holiday will be added to the employees' floating holiday balances for eligible staff to use this calendar year. Employees need to request the time off with their supervisor using the normal request process. Time granted off for floating holidays is to be used in full-day increments. Floating holidays not utilized by the end of the calendar year will be lost.

The College will be closed only on the designated holiday dates listed above. Divisional vice presidents will work with department managers to determine staffing levels and hours of operation for all other regular work days during winter break. For safety reasons, departments should schedule at least two employees to work in the office on days when the office is open.

Just $10 Will Save a Life

Did you know that a mosquito net can save one in every five deaths from malaria complications? But I am sure you didn't know that $10 is so invaluable so much so that it can save a life? Yes you heard me right! $10 can buy a mosquito net. Ask me who told me. The World Health Organization (WHO) told me. Please tell me you got the pun! But seriously that's a monstrous return on your investment. It was this mind blowing statistic that nurtured my current project to distribute mosquito nets in Nigeria this winter break.

To learn how you can seize this wonderful opportunity to make the world a better place, you can visit Give to the Max website at www.givemn.org/auggiesgive, and be sure to check out my link. Otherwise you can visit my campaign webpage directly at www.igg.me/at/neniproject/x/5228780

Extra incentive: You will receive a personalized thank you card from the benefactor of your net if you donate $20 or more. So what are you waiting for? Lets show them why we are called Auggies!
