Shredding Service Coming - Clean Your Files
It is time to go through your office files and office storerooms and purge confidential documents according to your retention rules. We will bring a document destruction service to campus in a couple of weeks. Place a facilities work request by Oct. 11 to request pick-up of your confidential documents for shredding. If you have questions about what is confidential, please contact your manager. Sorry, we cannot accommodate personal shredding.

URGO Academic Year Research Grants Still Available
Each fall, URGO offers $1,000 research grants for students who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. These grants require 100 hours of research over the course of the academic year and are a great way to ease into research or to continue work on an existing project. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and can be found under the "Applications and Forms" tab of the URGO web page at http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/
To apply, complete the electronic application with your faculty mentor and have them email it to urgo@augsburg.edu. Grants go quickly so apply as soon as possible.
AgileAdvisor Brown Bag Sessions for Faculty
Please join us over the lunch hour next week to learn about the new AgileAdvisor system and the upcoming midterm progress report that will be asking for faculty feedback on student progress.

Employee Training Series: Spaces Still Available

Don't miss your chance to take part in this development opportunity. This course will provide participants a valuable set of tools as we learn to communicate across our diverse workplace.
The sessions are open to all faculty and staff at no cost, with four opportunities to participate in this course. The sessions will be facilitated by Jeffrey Cookson, Organizational Development Manager and Global Diversity Inclusion Specialist from MRA Trusight.

Minneapolis-Cuernavaca 5th Anniversary Celebration
You're invited to the 5th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser for the Minneapolis-Cuernavaca Sister City Association (MCSCA) on Friday, October 11, 6-9 p.m. at the Historic Alfred Pillsbury House, home of Melissa and Uri Camarena. The event will include a photography exhibit by Michael Dvorak and Shiraz Mukarram, a silent auction, and refreshments. Active Wellness 2014 Information Sessions
The response to the announcement of our new wellness program, Active Wellness 2014, has been great. In fact, many of you have already registered for your health evaluations. The deadline for scheduling an evaluation is October 16 and deadline for completing the health evaluation is November 11. If you have not done so, there is still time, go to the HR Moodle site in the Active Wellness 2014 section for information on how to register.

Remember, this program is offered at no cost to you, and we are offering a financial incentive for participation. Employees on our health plan can earn a discount of $25 per month (up to $300 per year) on their health insurance premiums for participation in the Active Wellness 2014 program.

Representatives from Interactive Wellness will be on campus to provide more information about the Active Wellness 2014 program. They will give a brief presentation followed by an opportunity for you to ask them questions about the program.

The Campus Cupboard, Augsburg's food shelf, will reopen on Tuesday, October 8th. The Campus Cupboard is staffed by students and open to all students with an Augsburg ID.

Exploring Your Leadership Style: Oct. 10 workshop

Who should attend? Individuals and/or teams who want to enhance their leadership skills and effectiveness.
Discover your information processing preferences through I Opt. I Opt is a leadership assessment tool used in professional development that will help you understand how you gather, process and act on the information that is all around you. This information shapes the way you approach leadership. To effectively lead others, it’s helpful to understand the strengths and vulnerabilities of your own approach.
Prior to the workshop, participants will complete a short online survey (fewer than ten minutes). The results of this survey will be used to generate a personalized report that each participant will receive at the workshop. These Advanced Leadership Reports identify information processing preferences, providing insights into issues that people bring with them everywhere they go. Tom Morgan, a certified I Opt interpreter, will explain the I Opt model and help you get the most out of your individual report.

To participate in the workshop, please RSVP by e-mail to Patty Park at parkp@augsburg.edu by Monday, October 7. You will receive an e-mail reply with directions for taking the I Opt survey. You must be present at the workshop to receive the survey results. Space is limited, so register soon.
The I Opt survey and report has a value of $25, but we are able to offer it for $10 per participant in combination with the workshop. Your $10 payment will be collected at the beginning of the event.

Monday Daily Chapel: Blessing of the Animals
Join us at 10:40 am on Monday, 10/7, as we celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals. Our service will include a lively blessing ritual of animals and pets to honor St. Francis' devotion to all God's creatures. Malalai Joya is a human rights activist and recipient of numerous international awards. She has been called "the bravest woman in Afghanistan." She was suspended by the Afghan Parliament in 2007 for her criticism of the warlord and drug barons.
Co-sponsored by: Department of Political Science, Anne Pederson Women's Resource Center, and the Sabo Center for Citizenship and Learning and many other off-campus groups.
Speech Team Meets Monday
The Augsburg Speech Team continues to prepare for its first two meets later this month. It's not too late for you to to be a part of it! Register by Oct. 7 for Seminary/Divinity Day
Are you considering the idea of theological graduate school education? Is there a possibility you might want to become a pastor, a professor of religion, or work in a church vocation?
Gather with your peers at Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday, October 15. This all-day event will give you the opportunity to meet with representatives from up to 20 seminaries and divinity schools from around the nation, from multiple denominational affiliations. The day will also feature a keynote address during the luncheon, breakout sessions and discussions about the discernment process, questions of faith, what it's like to be in ministry (ordained, not ordained, specialized), the difference between a seminary and divinity school, and more.
By attending, you will have the chance to visit with students from other regional undergraduate schools who have similar questions and interests.
Transportation to and from Gustavus will be provided. There is no charge for this event (which includes lunch) but you must pre-register by noon Monday, Oct. 7.

In particular, The Scripps Research Institute is a world leader in biomedical breakthroughs that lay the foundation for improvements in human health. The institute has become internationally recognized for its research into immunology, molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, neurosciences, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, virology, and synthetic vaccine development. Scripps Research Institute faculty includes three Nobel laureates and numerous members of the National Academy of Sciences (including its Institute of Medicine), American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Goliard Board Game Night
