Less Than One Week To Find the Writing Lab
As the term's end quickly approaches, students are wise to use the Augsburg College Writing Lab, located on the street level of Lindell Library (just to the left of the circulation desk). Tutors can help with any writing assignment.
Here are the hours -- through Wednesday of Finals Week (That's NEXT week!):

CTL Portfolio Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to help candidates for any type of tenure and promotion review to determine the various forms of evidence that can help build a strong portfolio. The focus is on evidence of teaching, but the strategies directly apply to scholarship and service as well. This workshop is not designed to replace departmental guidance and advice nor is it an analysis of the Faculty Handbook language as it applies to an individual. Following the workshop, participants are encouraged to form groups to review each other's portfolio materials and provide feedback and support. This workshop is sponsored by CTL, not CTP.

As part of our annual faculty recognition luncheon, CTL sets up tables to display faculty work. It includes a focus on both scholarship (books, articles, art, and performances) and teaching (Moodle sites, syllabi, significant learning experiences, and other course materials that illustrate diverse approaches to effective teaching). If you have scholarship or teaching materials/ products that we could display, please send your name, department, the materials you will provide, and your email address to ctl@augsburg.edu
Please deliver a copy to Lois Nielsen-Johns in Memorial 111 by May 1; she will return them after the luncheon.
TFAPS -- Hybrid Learning Implementation
All faculty are invited to participate in two workshops offered by CTL and IT to support weekend and graduate faculty who are creating "hybrid" courses for 2013-14. If you are satisfied with the basic design of your courses, you only need to participate in the Moodle Labs to learn best practices for online learning and how to meet GAAC/AAC requirements for hybrid learning.
If you would like to improve the underlying design of your courses, you will also benefit from the integrated course design workshop.
Prerequisite: Please watch the screencasts in the Overview section of the Course Design Support Site (http://go.augsburg.edu/moodlelab) before coming to these sessions.

The Integrated Course Design for Hybrid Learning is a hands-on workshop that explores Fink's model for course design, which integrates situational factors, learning goals, learning activities, and assessment. It addresses how to choose face-to-face and online activities to create an engaged learning community, provide direct instruction, and facilitate active, collaborative learning. Details on Chris's bio and professional work may be found at: http://www.ansonica.net/. He brings extensive experience working with campuses, including several ACTC schools, to assess and improve their embedded writing programs. New Website for Faculty

This new process was enabled on the bookstore's website on Monday, April 22.
Please note: FacultyEnlight replaces our current textbook ordering system on the bookstore's website.
To submit book orders (adoptions) on FacultyEnlight, you will need to register as a new user.

Children's Book Drive Successful
A sincere thanks goes out to all who donated books for the children's book drive. You generously donated many books that we are now translating into Spanish. Soon they will be moved to CLUES, Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio, where they will be the start of a lending library that we plan to keep stocked for years to come. Thanks for making a difference!

Open Forums Scheduled in May for VP of Enrollment
The search committee for the Vice President of Enrollment Management position, in consultation with President Pribbenow, has identified three finalist candidates for on-campus interviews May 7, 8 and 10. Open forums have been scheduled in the Marshall Room for each of the three candidates. The following dates will also be posted on the Inside Augsburg calendar (viewable only when logged in):
Candidate 1: Tuesday, May 7, 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
Candidate 2: Wednesday, May 8, 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.
Candidate 3: Friday, May 10, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
As with the Provost search, candidate resumes will be posted on Moodle the day prior to the candidate's arrival on campus, and an anonymous survey will be available through the following day for feedback.

As the semester is coming near the end, your rentals will soon be due. (May 3)
Please remember if you rented a book, you do not own the book and it can not be sold back for money. Please take all rentals to the front register and check your books in. It is the renter's responsibility to ensure books are checked - in and not sold back. You may refer to your receipt or online order invoice to see if you rented a book. Books that are not checked in by the due date will be charged to the securing credit card. (We would much rather have the book back!)
If you are selling back a book you purchased, please have your Augsburg ID in hand. Buybacks are conducted at the Book Information desk at the bookstore.
Augsburg Ranks #3 in Minnesota for NSF Funding
Augsburg was ranked #3 in Minnesota for the total dollar amount awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2012. Augsburg received three awards from NSF in 2012, totaling just over $1M. The top two spots are held by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and the University of Minnesota, Duluth. This positions Augsburg as the leader in NSF funding among private institutions of higher education in the state!

Memorial Service for Prof. "Gabe" Gabrielsen '63
Members of the Augsburg community are invited to attend a memorial service for Dr. Stephen "Gabe" Gabrielsen, College organist, music professor, and Spirit of Augsburg alumni award winner, this Saturday, April 27, at 11:30 a.m. in the Hoversten Chapel.
Free parking will be available in Lot L for this service. Livestream of the service will be available in Oren 100 and 114 if the chapel is full as well as online at www.livestream.com/augsburgcollege.
A reception will follow in the Oren Gateway lobby.
Meet the Provost Candidate TODAY
The third and final provost candidate to visit campus is Karen Kaivola, who currently serves as Associate Provost for Faculty Development and J. Ollie Edmunds Professor of English at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Dr. Kaivola's CV is available on the Provost Search Committee's public community moodle site.
Open forums to meet Dr. Kaivola are TODAY, Thursday, April 25, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. OR 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. with a brief reception following. NOTE room change from previous communications: both are in the Marshall Room.

Keystone Performance to Benefit Food Shelf
Please join graduating seniors from the Music, Studio Arts, and Theater departments as they present "Food Is" a visual art and performance piece based on a semester research project that examines student hunger. The event is a benefit to raise funds, awareness, and visibility of Augsburg's new food shelf, Campus Cupboard.
"Food Is" includes a collaborative performance piece and a silent auction of student artwork created this semester. It will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in the basement of Old Main.
Admission is free but donations of nonperishable food items are strongly encouraged.
Light refreshments will be served.

Retirement Open House for David Draus Tomorrow
The Finance & Administration Division invites you to join us in saying a fond farewell to David Draus, who is retiring after 13 years at Augsburg College. An open house will be held tomorrow (Friday, April 26) in the Marshall Room from 2:30-4 p.m. Cake and other refreshments will be served.
David came to us in September 2000 from Envoy Telecom to become the director of purchasing and risk management. Within a year, he had moved to his current position of director of facilities and risk management. Among his many accomplishments was the creation of a long-range deferred maintenance plan, which emerged from a 2005 audit of the facilities' needs, and is worked annually by his team as an approved investment by the Board of Regents.
Upon retirement, David plans to spend more time fly fishing, woodworking, gardening, and with Gayle, his wife of 43 years, as well as his two grandsons. His final day is May 1st.
David leaves big shoes to fill. Dennis Stuckey will become interim director of facilities. Kristin Hansen, assistant to the CFO and CIO, will take over the duties of risk manager.

Need a Couple of Helpers with Strong Backs
We have had one older, large TV and two smaller TV's croak in the past few weeks. My husband is having severe back trouble, and we would like to hire a couple of strong-backed helpers to get these monsters moved to the trash pick-up site. We live in Crystal, just north of Golden Valley, and we can help with getting to and fro if you need it. Payment of $25 a piece, plus gas mileage if you drive yourselves.
