Public Safety Break Announcements

Note: The Library and Athletic Facilities have published operating schedules. Those facilities will open and close according to their published schedules.

1 - Buildings will be unlocked each weekday morning at their normal time. Buildings will remain closed on holidays (12/23, 12/24,12/25,12/26, 1/1, 1/2) and weekends UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the building open.

2 - Buildings will close no later than 5 p.m. UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the building to remain open. Officers will be making regular rounds through buildings. During break the officers will close a building if, during their rounds, they find it empty. If you leave for the day and believe your building will be empty, please call x1717 and let us know.

3 - Conference rooms, classrooms and labs will remain locked UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the space.

4 - If the space you need is locked, and you have a legitimate reason to be in there, please call x1717 and an officer will do their best to assist you. Please have photo ID and show it to the officer. Some officers will be working different shifts over the break and may not have had the opportunity to meet you.

5 - Whenever possible, don't work alone. Ideally, there should always be two or more people in your area. If you are working alone, I encourage you to call x1717 and let us know. We will have officers walk by your area more frequently.

6 - If you see anything suspicious, please call x1717 immediately.

7 - Surface Parking lot general spaces will not require a permit between Dec. 16th and Jan 15th. HOWEVER, all specifically marked spaces such as reserved, meters, handicap etc still require the appropriate permit or money. These spaces will continue to be monitored as well as all fire lane and time restricted zones.

8) Spring parking permit sales will begin the week of Jan. 2nd 2012. Please see the website for further details on specific sales dates. http://www.augsburg.edu/dps/parking_permits.html

Food Shelf Needs Your Help

Food Shelf needs your help...1,500 lbs. of Donated Food Stolen Before Christmas

Some of you may have seen this story on the news. Gethsemane Lutheran Church, with three other north Minneapolis churches, run a food shelf, Camden Promise. Last Friday, 1,500 lbs of food that was to be given to 200 families on Christmas Eve has been stolen. A person who volunteered to transport the food to the church stole the donations instead, according to Pastor Jeff Nehrbass who runs the Camden Promise Food Shelf.

Gethsemane Lutheran is a church in our synod and is in need of help. If you and your congregation can help replenish this loss of much needed food, please call the Camden Promise Food Shelf at 612-964-0881 or Gethsemane Lutheran at 612-521-3575. Gethsemane Lutheran is at 4656 Colfax Ave N, Minneapolis.

They are also in need of volunteers tomorrow (December 21) from 12-4 to help unload donations at the church. Volunteers are also needed on Thursday, December 22, to help bag up food for distribution on Christmas Eve. If you are able to help, please call the church office or Camden Promise Food Shelf (numbers above).

This is also a good reminder that at this time of year, all the food shelfs in the communities served by our congregations are in need of additional food because of the high demand during the holidays.

Rail -Only Transfers Eliminated as of January 1

Effective Jan. 1, bus drivers will no longer issue Rail-Only Transfers.* This affects only those who use SuperSaver Stored Value Cards on buses then transfer to light rail. Beginning Jan. 1, if your trip includes a transfer from bus to light rail, use a Go-To Card for an easier way to pay your fare.

Get your Go-To Card today! Go-To Cards can be used over and over again and automatically include a transfer.

Get your Go-To Card from our online store or at Metro Transit stores (http://metrotransit.org/transit-stores.aspx) or at select retailers.

If you receive Stored Value Cards through an employer or organization, you can transfer the value of those cards to a Go-To Card. Submit your cards along with a mail order form.

*Rail-only Transfers are issued by bus drivers exclusively to customers who pay with SuperSaver Stored Value Cards then transfer to light rail. Customers paying with cash should continue to request a transfer from the driver. Transfers are automatically embedded on Go-To Cards and passes. 31 Day passes will still be useable for bus and light rail rides.

Augsburg is considering a procedure for purchasing a Go-To pass for campus users that will allow for an Augsburg discount and pre-tax withdrawal from pay but it will require a once per year commitment for a monthly withdrawal. Otherwise value can be added to the card anytime by the user. More in the coming weeks.
