Grants for Research and Advanced Language Training

American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is now accepting applications for its 2012-2013 Title VIII Grants for Research and Advanced Language Training programs in Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Southeast Europe, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for these awards.

The application deadline for all Title VIII fellowships is October 1, 2011.

Please note that Title VIII Research Scholar Program and Title VIII Combined Research and Language Training Program must begin between June 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013; and must be completed by September 30, 2013. Title VIII Southeast European Language Training Program offers fellowships for Spring 2012 and Summer 2012 only.

Fellowships will be offered in three categories:

*Title VIII Research Scholar Program: Provides full support for three- to nine-month research trips to Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Southeast Europe, Ukraine, and Moldova. Fellowships include roundtrip international travel, housing and living stipend, visa support, medical insurance, archive access, and logistical support in the field. Open to U.S. graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Annual deadline: October 1st.

*Title VIII Combined Research and Language Training Program: Provides full support for research and up to ten academic hours per week of advanced language instruction for three-to-nine months in Russia, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Southeast Europe, Ukraine, and Moldova. Fellowships include roundtrip international travel, housing and living stipend, tuition, visa support, medical insurance, archive access, and logistical support in the field. Open to U.S. graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Annual deadline: October 1st.

*Title VIII Southeast European Language Training Program: Provides fellowships for graduate students, faculty, and scholars to study language for spring 2012 and/or summer 2012 in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. Open to students at the MA and Ph.D. level, as well as post-doctoral scholars and faculty, who have at least elementary language skills. Deadline: October 1st.

Life of the Mind – October 22-23, 2011

Sad News About a Student

Nathan Gregory, student, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, July 17, 2011. The cause of death is not known. He was at home with his parents in Tucson, AZ.

Nathan arrived at Augsburg in Spring 2011.

Please keep Nathan and his family in your prayers.

An on-campus service is being planned for early next week.

Keeping Track of Auggies

Gilman Intl Scholarship Winners Issei and Zahra

Congrats to Issei Kashima and Zahra Abdirizak who both were awarded a combined $8000 for study abroad!

Issei will be studying business and liberal arts in Tokyo, Japan during the academic year.

Zahra will be studying Intl Relations and Business in Paris, France during fall semester.

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

HP Deskjet 5150 color inkjet printer, $30 or best offer. Still works fine (we bought a higher-volume printer for grad school), in original box. HP website includes drivers or installation instructions for current versions of Windows, and for Mac OS up to 10.5 .

Toshiba SD-1800 DVD player, $15 or best offer. Works just fine; we were given a fancier model so don't need this one anymore. In original box.

Augsburg IT Intern Open Position

Information Technology is now hiring for the Student Intern position. Students in this role will be performing technically advanced work repairing college owned computers, troubleshooting network issues and working on special projects for IT staff.
