Parking Lots E (north of Mortensen) and J (behind Foss/Music) will be closed for parking Wed, Thurs, and Fri of next week (July 20-22) Please utilize other campus parking lots during this time. Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner's expense.

Life of the Mind – October 22-23, 2011

Next year's Life of the Mind Retreat will be held October 22-23, and focus on Global Poverty and Social Inequity. It will be organized by Katie Welle, Steve Peacock, Sarah Myers, Orv Gingerich, and Kevin Bowman. Please mark your calendar. Reservations will be taken in September.

General Announcements


Faculty Help Needed for SOAR Excursions

Dear Colleagues,
Faculty members are still needed to assist with the neighborhood excursions during SOAR. Faculty are welcome to eat lunch with the Neighborhood Groups they are assigned to prior to the excursion, but it is not required.

For lunch the Neighborhood Groups will be sitting at tables designated by their Neighborhood signs. Lunch will be served from 11:45 am-12:45 pm in the Dining Commons.

All faculty must however meet their Orientation Leaders and Neighborhood Group students in Murphy Square no later than 12:45 pm and need to return to campus no later than 2:45 pm.

Orientation Leaders will be 1) leading the excursions, 2) monitoring the time, and 3) following an established route. It is our hope that the faculty will be able to enrich the experience by interaction with the students in any way they feel comfortable during the excursion.

4 faculty members are needed on Friday, July 20
4 faculty members are needed on Monday, July 25
5 faculty member are needed on Wednesday, July 27

Auggie Booth at the State Fair

Although the outpouring of volunteers to staff the Augsburg booth at the State Fair has been wonderful, we are still in need of a few more. Here are the shifts that remain:

Saturday, September 3

Sunday, September 4
*1-5, needs one more person
*5-9, needs TWO people

Monday, September 5
*5-9, needs one more person

Still Time to Sign Up

Thrivent Builds partners with Habitat for Humanity
August 8-9, 2011
8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Young Alumni Council member Dave Lange '08, would like to invite Augsburg alumni, friends, students and family (16 people needed each day) to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity at a home in North Minneapolis on August 8th and/or August 9, from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Dave's employer, Thrivent Financial, has graciously sponsored all of the expenses associated with volunteering with Habitat.

So, put on your work clothes and come join Dave and other members of the Auggie community to build a home for a family in need.

Open to the Public: McNair Research Presentations

McNair would like to extend an invitation to attend their Scholars' research presentations on Tuesday, July 19 from 10 a.m. - 1:40 p.m.

One component of the McNair Scholars Program is a 10-week summer research project. Each year students work with a faculty mentor on a specific topic, culminating in a final paper and presentation. Current research Scholars will be presenting their projects on campus. This event is open to the public including all interested students, faculty and staff. Please consider joining us in offering support and feedback. See below for details:
