Fall 2010 Parking Permit Information

Fall Parking information has been updated online. Please visit http://www.augsburg.edu/dps/parking_permits.html for specific information about permit types, permit prices, registration dates, and the registration process.

Faculty/staff sales will begin Monday August 9th at 8:30 am. Those that register for a permit by August 20th, will be entered into a drawing to win a free permit.

Day Student sales begin on August 30th at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the week, based on student credit standing. Please view the website for details.

General Announcements

Become an Interfaith Leader on Immigration

Gain the knowledge-base and skill set to become an interfaith leader on immigration. This training is open to staff and volunteers from local immigration organizations, religious leaders, and student groups.*

Stranger to Neighbor Training
Tuesday August 10, 2010, 9 am – 5 pm

Participants will be prepared for interfaith leadership in the following areas:

* Religious Pluralism 101 - Introduction to interfaith cooperation
* "The Changing Face of America" – A brief history of immigration in the US
* Exploration of many sacred texts around immigration, and how different traditions are responding to the needs of immigrants now
* Storytelling around "welcoming the stranger"
* Mobilize and sustaining an interfaith and immigration movement
* "Changing the conversation" - Engaging the media

Participants will receive a Stranger to Neighbor curriculum resource at the end of the training, and will have the ability to join the Stranger to Neighbor group on Interfaith Youth Corp's Bridge-Builders network, an online social forum of 3,000 young interfaith leaders across the United States that will provide additional resources for the future interfaith and immigration work of the participants.

This training is presented by the Interfaith Youth Corps, in partnership with the Minnesota Council of Churches.

Minnesota Church Center, 122 West Franklin Ave, Minneapolis, MN. Overflow parking is available at the Plymouth Congregational Church on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Blaisdell Ave South, one block east of the Church Center.

McNair Scholars Summer Research Presentations

Augsburg staff, faculty, students and community are invited to the McNair Scholars Program Summer Research Presentations. Ten Scholars will present their research in preparation for their attendance at the 18th Annual Penn State McNair Summer Research Conference. Please join us on Tuesday, July 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. in OGC 114. Presentations run for 15 minutes; come for one or come for all!

The McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded program aimed at increasing doctoral degree attainment of students from segments of society underrepresented in graduate studies. Participants engage in 10 weeks of intensive summer research, culminating in a final paper and presentation.

Neighborhood Yard Sale Saturday 9-3

This Saturday the Greystone Flats Cooperative is having a yard sale on the 1800 block of 5th Street in the Cedar Riverside Area. Many items to be sold, including bikes, air conditioners, furniture, electronics and clothing. Most of the 18 units are participating, and it is adjacent to the outdoor flea market at the Dania Hall lot on Cedar Ave. This sale is from 9 - 3 only so get there early for the best bargains. Star Wars in Concert Tickets For Sale

I'm selling two tickets to "Star Wars in Concert" for the 3pm show on Sunday, July 11 at Xcel Energy Center. I'm selling them at face value for $57.50 each (no Ticket Master charges). These are nice seats in the lower level with a straight on view of the stage.
