This is an excellent opportunity to have your work published! Murphy Square is a student run organization that hopes to illuminate and showcase the artistic talents of Augsburg students and professors.

Since it was our mistake, we would like to extend the deadline of Murphy Square to Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Midnight. Please send your submissions to either murphysquare@augsburg.edu or murphysq@augsburg.edu as we have heard that either should be excepting submissions.

In the body of the email please include the title of the piece and the author's name. Please note that the author's name should not appear on any of the documents within the file. Also, the title of the document should be the name of the work.

If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Sanow (sanow@augsburg.edu).

We look forward to your work!

Online Timecards Need Approvals - Effective March 21

Important changes for all students, staff and faculty currently using Web Time Entry for timesheets

We have been on the new online Web Time Entry system for 6 pay periods and have solved most of the problems students and biweekly employees have experienced using the system.

Thus far, employees have been paid for their hours whether or not their timecards were approved. Now that employees have been using the system, it is time to begin requiring managers and employees to approve hours before they can be paid. Back in the "old days" of paper timesheets, we did not pay for hours on timesheets that were not signed off by employees and supervisors. It is time to reinforce that policy again.

Effective this current pay period of 03/21/10 – 4/3/10 (for payday Friday, 4/9/10), any time sheet not approved by the employee AND the manager will not be paid until approved. Any time sheets approved after the 12-noon deadline on Tuesday will be added to the next payroll 2 weeks later. Always ensure you are approving the correct pay period. If you are approving the timesheet on Monday, you will need to make sure your are approving the "previous pay period."

Timecards with no hours also need to be approved by both employee and manager. If the employee is no longer working in the position, the manager needs to send an e-mail to hr@augsburg.edu to let us know.

To check if the timecard has been approved, click on the Sign-offs & Approvals tab in the lower left section of the timecard. This lists all sign-offs and approvals and when they approved them. If there is no Sign-offs & Approvals tab, there have been no approvals.

Managers can check for approval as above, or by clicking on the Timekeeping tab, then Pay Period Close. Once the list of employees appears, check the appropriate columns for check marks. If no check mark, it hasn't been done.

If you are still having trouble with using the Web Time Entry system, please contact HR at ext 1058.

Education Vocatio Chapel with Kelly Woods, '99

You are invited to March's Vocatio Chapel!

Listen! God is Calling: Race, Place, and Class...in Education
Wednesday, March 24, 10:20-10:40 a.m.

Kelly Woods, a 1999 alumna of Augsburg College, has been teaching in the Minneapolis Public School District for ten years. She is currently a third grade teacher at Nellie Stone Johnson Community School.

Ms. Woods, winner of the 2008 Milken Family Foundation’s Educator Award, works with parents to reinforce their children's education and solve academic or behavioral issues, and volunteers monthly at Family Fun & Learning Nights to strengthen relationships with students and parents. Even students with behavior issues and low skills have experienced success under her instruction. As a member of Johnson's Teacher Advancement Program TAP' s Leadership Team, Woods played an integral role in helping the school develop its implementation of TAP. Previously, she was a TAP mentor teacher for two years at Andersen Elementary School, where she helped students who started two years below grade level advance to grade level and higher. This experience provided her with effective skills that she now shares with the staff at Johnson, modeling instruction, observing colleagues in their classrooms, and peer-coaching them to help improve their teaching.

When she began her teaching career ten years ago, Kelly wanted to teach in urban classrooms to help provide kids who need it the best education possible. Each day she works toward that goal with her students, their families, other teachers, staff and the entire school.

Following chapel, from 11 AM - Noon, there will be a luncheon with Ms. Woods. Interested students, faculty, and staff should RSVP to Lonna Field at fieldl@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1467 by March 23.
