Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Crime Alert: Burglary in Anderson Hall

On Wednesday, January 6, 2010, employees discovered a cell phone and iPod had been taken from offices in Anderson Hall. The offices were unlocked and unattended with the stolen items sitting on their desks. The loss occurred between noon and 1 pm that day.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg's Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

- Always lock your room or office whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes, a residence hall or office burglary can take even less time.

- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, take your valuables with you or leave them at home.

- Keep your car keys on your person at all times. If a crook can take your keys, they can take your car.

- Regularly back-up all data on your computer and encourage your friends and colleagues to do likewise. Students and employees should contact student computing or their LFC respectively with questions about backing up their data.

- Be aware of strangers who may be looking for valuables to return and steal later. Immediately report suspicious activity to Augsburg DPS.

- Don’t let non-residents follow you through the card controlled exterior doors of a residence hall. This practice is also known as "tailgating." If a stranger does follow you in, please call DPS at 1717 and let us know.

If you have questions or concerns regarding crime at Augsburg, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety at 612-330-1644 or pack@augsburg.edu.

While in Oslo, we will be hosted by Diakonhjemmet University College, one of Augsburg's partner schools. Faculty from Diakonhjemmet will lead three morning sessions that complement our travels.
• A journey westward by motor coach through Kongsberg, the historic Numedal Valley, and Hardangervidda (the mountain plateau home of large reindeer herds) to stay in a charming traditional hotel in Geilo
• A famously scenic train ride to the fjord village of Flåm and a cruise on the Aurlands and Naeroy Fjords
• Two nights in picturesque and historic Bergen on Norway's west coast

With the change in pay frequency, you will receive only 2 weeks of pay instead of the previous 4 weeks. If you have a large amount being deposited into a second account, there may not be enough net pay to do so. Please complete a new Direct Deposit Authorization if you wish to change amounts to each account.

The direct deposit for students who have their pay deposited to only one account are not affected by the change in pay frequency.

All student workers are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit. Please refer to the Student Employment Guide for explanation or contact HR at ext. 1058. Forms are available on the Human Resources public drive and are to be turned in to the Human Resource office.

Keeping Track of Auggies

Brian Hesser Directs "A Lion in Winter" at Gremlin

Brian Hesser, Theater alum, is Directing-Producing an outstanding cast in "The Lion in Winter" at the Gremlin Theater, 2400 University Ave in St Paul, just east of Highway 280 and KSTP-TV and on #16 Bus Route.

Treat yourself to a winter break and get a "2 for price of 1" discount [$12 before discount for students] and support another Theater alum. Just tell them you are from "Augsburg College" to get the 2 for 1 discount.

Performances run from Thursday, January 14 through Monday, January 25th: Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.

The Lion in Winter occurs during Christmas 1183 at Henry Plantagenet's château. The play opens with the arrival of his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine from prison; the story immediately centers on the personality conflicts and shifting alliances among the estranged couple and their adult sons and heirs to the throne. Alliances constantly shift throughout the story; almost every statement is a falsehood or half truth as family members attempt to manipulate each other for their own goals.

Auggies Win National Duals Title

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/1/10/wres011010.aspx?path=wrestling

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Behind a pin by Zach Molitor (JR, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) at 174 pounds, the Augsburg College wrestling team captured its fifth National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals title with an 18-15 championship-match triumph over rival Wartburg College (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon at the University of Northern Iowa's UNI-Dome.

Molitor, ranked No. 3 nationally in his weight class, captured pins in both of Augsburg's matches on Sunday, a 4:30 pin in the Auggies' 22-14 win over Coe (Iowa) in the semifinals and a 3:52 pin of Wartburg's No. 7-ranked Dylan Azinger in the championship match.

"In a high-pressure situation like that, Zach Molitor excels," said Augsburg head coach Mark Matzek. "He wants to put himself in a situation like that for the team. He did a great job of doing what he does best. He wrestled hard and caught his opponent at the right time, and got the fall. He had an unbelievable weekend."

Augsburg, now 7-0 in dual meets, claimed its second straight National Duals title and fifth in the nine-year history of the Division III event. The Auggies also claimed their third straight victory over their biggest wrestling rival, defending national champion Wartburg. Augsburg and Wartburg will meet again in a dual meet on Feb. 4 in Waverly, Iowa.

On the weekend, the No. 2-ranked Auggies, now 7-0 in dual meets this season, scored four wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 22 Wisconsin-Whitewater 33-7 and No. 10 North Central (Iowa) 25-12 on Saturday, then beating No. 3 Coe 22-14 in the semifinals on Sunday morning. Wartburg, ranked No. 5 nationally, is now 13-1 in dual meets.

"This is a total team effort – not just the 15 guys were were able to weigh in this weekend, but all the 30-plus guys on the roster that worked hard and put their blood and sweat together to capture a national dual-meet title," Matzek said. "It puts all the hard work and all the sacrifices that these guys put in every day into perspective. Being a student-athlete, managing their time, it's not for nothing; it's for winning big meets like this. There may be teams in the nation that work as hard as us, but no one works harder than us."
