Considering Grad School? Register for GRE Prep

Going to graduate school by the Fall of 2010 or 2011? Most masters and doctoral programs require the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) for admission. GRE Prep is offered this summer on campus through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Graduate Opportunity. You'll learn the most effective ways tackle the Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing sections on the GRE.

The course meets Wednesdays from 6-9 PM for six weeks (June 3, 10, 17, 24, July 1, 8) in Oren Gateway Center Room 201. The cost is only $40, which includes test prep materials; this is a fraction of the cost when compared to similar classroom GRE prep courses offered by Kaplan or the Princeton Review who charge over $1,000.

Alums and non-Augsburg students are also welcome to register.

Online registration is now open at the following web site: http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/gre_prep_reg.html

Italy Alumni Tour - November 2009

Discover Italian Treasures

You are invited to be inspired and enriched traveling with Augsburg alumni and friends on a journey of discovery to Italy this November 2-12. Hosted by art professor Kristin Anderson this exploration of Italian art, history, culture and cuisine begins in Northern Italy in Venice and Padua. Travel continues along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea to the historic port town of Ravenna to see magnificent Byzantine mosaics. Arrive into Tuscany and then into Florence, the city that gave birth to the Renaissance for a two night visit. Travel among the beauty of medieval hill towns and surrounding vineyards and olive groves into the Umbria Region with an overnight stay in one of those hills towns, Orvieto. The tour ends in the Eternal City of Rome where a tapestry of art, architecture, history and culture woven over thousands of years makes it one of founding cities of Western Civilization. An included day excursion to the archeological site of Pompeii is part of the stay in Rome.

The cost of the tour is $2990 from the Twin Cities plus gratuities and airport taxes. The estimated group size is 26.

To obtain the itinerary and details on the comprehensive inclusions of this custom-created travel experience contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 612-330-1085 or alumni@augsburg.edu.

Dr. Kristin Anderson is an experienced tour organizer and host and looks forward to returning to Italy to share her love and knowledge of art with alumni and friends. She has taught courses in the history of art at Augsburg College since 1984 including specialized courses on Medieval Art and Women and Art.

Now is an opportune time to travel to Italy when the U.S. dollar is stronger and crowds are thinner than the past several years. A similar travel program last year was several hundred dollars more expensive according to our tour company, CrossingBorders www.crossingborders.com

Summer Nanny and Babysitting/Tutoring

My daughter Sarah is home from Dickinson College for the summer. She is looking for a nanny position for school age kids or other babysitting/tutoring jobs.

She is certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid. She was on the swim team for 6 years and the high school golf team, and is involved in technical theater so she would be able to supervise kids during their summer activities and add fun activities of her own. She has her own car and is available in the Twin Cities area.

She would also be available for tutoring or college preparation and essay writing for older students. She completed the International Baccalaureate Degree in high school and has been on the Dean's list for both years at Dickinson. She speaks Spanish - 6 years - and Mandarin Chinese - 2 years.

Contact me for her phone number!
