Teaching and Learning

Lindell Library Graduation Week and Summer Hours

During this graduation weekend, Lindell Library will be open:
Friday, May 1 -- 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 2 -- 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday, May 3 -- Noon - 6 p.m.

Regular summer hours begin May 4:
Monday-Friday -- 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday – 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday -- Noon - 6 p.m.

Hours are always available on the Lindell Library web site: www.augsburg.edu/library

Online library resources are also available 24/7 on that web site.

GRE Prep Starts in June

URGO will once again offer a six-week prep course for the GRE, Graduate Records Examination, the entrance exam required by most graduate programs of study.

Students, staff, alums and others are welcome to attend.

Dates: Six Wednesdays, starting June 3
Time: 6 to 9 p.m.
Cost: $40 (includes materials)

Conquer the GMAT

Are you thinking of applying for an MBA program? Do you need to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)? The Augsburg MBA Program is sponsoring an on-campus GMAT preparation course: "Conquer the GMAT!" The cost is only $300 (the most affordable in the Twin Cities) and includes test prep materials. The preparation includes one writing, two verbal, and two quantitative sessions.

Dates are :
Tuesday, June 16, 6 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday, June 23, 6 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday, June 30, 6 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday, July 7, 6 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday, July 14, 6 - 9 p.m.

Paid Positions for Summer Science/Math Programs

Augsburg will host four exciting programs with Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools during the month of July. Twelve (12) summer positions are available for undergraduates, especially in education, science, math, music and computer science. These program positions are to mentor 4th-8th grade girls/boys in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Public Schools at programs on the Augsburg campus. Undergraduate Mentors are responsible for cooperating with teachers, High School Mentors and teams of girls and boys from the sponsoring schools on a number of fun, hands on science, engineering, math and team sports programs. These summer sessions takes place June 30, July 1 (Training) July 6– July 23 or July 6 - 30 8:30-4:00 or 9:15-4:45 (1/2 hour working lunch). Augsburg Mentors are paid an hourly wage of $13.00/hour. Joyce Pfaff's Retirement Bike Ride and Reception

Joyce Pfaff will be retiring from Augsburg after 43 years of teaching. The day, Wed., May 13, will start with a 43-mile bike ride (lots of bail out points so all bicycling levels welcome). We will leave promptly @ 7:30 am. from in front of Melby Hall. From 3:30-5:30 there will be a reception in East Commons. A short program will begin @ 4:30.

An IT Newsletter and Upcoming Events

We've started a seasonal newsletter to bring you useful tips, share what's upcoming, and help enable you to be more effective with IT. It's called "The Link" and is at http://augnet.augsburg.edu/thelink/ . It's a quick read and this first issue has some useful take-aways for working off-campus and more!

Also, you are invited to join the IT staff for bite-sized technology tips on Thursday, May 7 from 1-3p.m. in OGC 100. "Technology Tapas" will provide a plethora of byte-sized tastes of technology to enhance your teaching, work, or life in general. Stop by any time as the program is continuous.

Along with the IT faculty and staff survey going on right now, we're hosting 2 focused conversations to answer your questions about the IT support and services we provide. Join me in Lindell 202, the CTL Workshop Room, on Friday May 8 at 10 a.m. and Monday May 18 at 3 p.m. Bring your questions and feedback.

First Wednesday Gathering


Please join us for Wednesday Gathering on Wednesday, May 6, in the East Commons from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

The security and custodial night shift employees are also invited to the Wednesday Evening Gathering at 8 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room.

The first-Wednesday-of-the-month gatherings support our commitment to building community and practicing common work. They are an opportunity to get to know one another, exchange ideas, and collaborate in new ways. We hope you will invite your colleagues and plan to join us!

Student Bookstore Accounts to Close

Students: bookstore accounts through B&N will close soon, slightly ahead of the previously published schedule. This means that, if you have a remaining unspent credit, this money will return to your student account sooner!

Please sign up for direct deposit, in case your bookstore credit becomes a credit refund! Go to www.augsburg.edu/enroll and click on the Direct Deposit information.

(There are no bookstore accounts for Summer. Please budget accordingly so that you're able to buy your books.)
