Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Crime Alert: Robbery Reported in Lot L

An individual has reported that, on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at approximately 5:30 pm, they were robbed in Lot L. There are inconsistencies in the report we received and the individual does not wish to make a police report. If you are in Lot L at the time of this reported robbery, and believe you may have information relevant to the complaint, please contact Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety at 612-330-1717.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your safety or crime on campus, please contact John Pack, Director of Public Safety, at 612-330-1644 or by email at pack@augsburg.edu. As always, please immediately report any suspicious behavior to Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety. You can reach DPS all day, every day by dialing 1717 from an on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from an off-campus phone.

You can help prevent crime!

• Where possible, walk in groups. Groups of people are significantly less likely to be harassed of victimized.

• Call for an escort! Escorts are available all day, every day.

• Stand-up straight, walk with purpose and be aware of your surroundings. Criminals generally look for an easy target, someone they can sneak up on without being seen.

• When possible, leave your valuables at home.

• Back-up your data! Your files can easily be backed-up to your network folder or a USB drive. Don’t risk losing your notes, research and other work. If you have any questions about the best way to back-up your data, talk to your LFC or to Student Computing.

• Immediately report suspicious activity to the Department of Public Safety at x1717.

Teaching and Learning

Faculty Scholarship Display

Dear Faculty Members,

On behalf of the Center for Teaching and Learning as well as the Office of the Dean, I am requesting your help in recognizing faculty scholarship, performance, and creativity over the last year. At the Faculty Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, April 30, tables will be set up for the purpose of displaying recent faculty work.

If you or anyone in your department or division has published a book or a journal article, performed in or directed a theatre or musical production, exhibited art, or presented other work formally to the public in the last year, please ask them to drop off the relevant books, journals, playbills, programs, posters, etc. at the CTL desk on the second floor (link level) of the library so that they can be displayed at the Faculty Recognition Luncheon. Faculty may leave items at the CTL desk at any time, but valuable items such as books are best left during times when there will be staff (Antonio Spargo for the next few weeks) on hand to secure them: M 8-10, W 11-3, and F 11-2.

This was a very popular display last year, and we look forward to showcasing once again the excellent work of our colleagues.

Thank you for your cooperation,

John Harkness

The Augsburg Honors Review wants to publish your work. All you have to do is submit it!

What to Submit:
We will consider papers from all disciplines that successfully articulate an original and compelling thesis.

Why Submit?
Being a published author is one of the best ways to demonstrate your writing skills to graduate schools, professional schools, and employers.

How to Submit:
Please send your work to review@augsburg.edu and include the following information:

-- The first and last names of all authors and faculty advisors,
-- Your anticipated graduation date,
-- A reliable way to contact you other than your college-provided email address,
-- The name of the institution where your research was conducted (if other than Augsburg), and
-- The title of your paper.

We prefer Microsoft Word format (.doc) for all attachments.

Submit your work by 10 AM on April 26, 2009, to be eligible for a $100 prize! Contact Shawn Boonstra (boonstra@augsburg.edu) for details and eligibility restrictions.

What is the Augsburg Honors Review?
The Augsburg Honors Review is an interdisciplinary journal exhibiting outstanding work by undergraduate students. As Professor Green told his students before he left, "I have a three-day exam, starting Thursday." He hopes he passed.
