Swenson Wrestling Wall of Fame Dedication Friday

Augsburg's Jeff Swenson '79 to be honored with dedication of Wrestling Wall of Fame on Friday

http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/012709swenson.html

MINNEAPOLIS (1/27/09) -- Augsburg will honor the legacy of its 10-time national championship wrestling program with the dedication of the Jeff Swenson Wrestling Wall of Fame prior to the No. 1-ranked Auggies' dual meet with No. 2-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) on Friday night (1/30) at the Si Melby Hall/Kennedy Center complex. The dedication will take place at 6 p.m., with the wrestling dual against Wartburg to follow at 7:30 p.m. There is also a high school dual meet between Albert Lea and Coon Rapids at 6 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.

The Jeff Swenson Wrestling Wall of Fame will contain more than 30 trophies earned by Augsburg wrestling squads from various national tournaments, along with other artifacts celebrating the rich history of Augsburg's wrestling program, considered one of the elite small-college wrestling programs in the nation.

Swenson, a 1979 Augsburg alum who now serves as the school's athletic director, coached the Auggie wrestlers for 25 years (1980-84, 1986-2007), building the squad into a national small-college wrestling powerhouse. Under Swenson's leadership, Augsburg won a record-10 NCAA Division III national championships and produced a career dual-meet record of 321-44 (.879 winning percentage). During his 25 years as head coach, Swenson coached 158 All-Americans and 39 individual national champions.

As a wrestler at Augsburg from 1975-79, Swenson produced a 102-17 competitive record, earning NAIA All-American honors three times (1977-78-79) and winning the national title at 167 pounds in 1979. He earned the school's senior Honor Athlete award in 1979 and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

Swenson has led Augsburg's 18-sport intercollegiate athletic program since 2001, when he was named Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation. In 2007, as part of a restructuring of the athletic department, Swenson's title was changed to Athletic Director. He is also serving as a wrestling assistant coach in 2008-09 under current head coach Mark Matzek.

For more information on the Jeff Swenson Wrestling Wall of Fame event, contact the Augsburg Alumni Relations office at 612-330-1085.

Parking Advisory for Friday's Athletic Events

Parking advisory for Friday 1/30 wrestling, men's hockey events at Augsburg
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/012709parking.html

MINNEAPOLIS (1/27/09) -- With multiple events taking place on the Augsburg College campus on Friday (1/30), there will be special parking restrictions in place for fans attending the two sporting events at Augsburg that evening -- a wrestling match against Wartburg (Iowa) and a men's hockey game against Concordia-Moorhead.

Because it is an Augsburg For Adults (Weekend College) weekend, parking in ALL campus lots will be limited to Augsburg parking permit-holders. NO ATHLETIC EVENT SPECTATOR PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN ANY AUGSBURG PARKING LOTS, including "Lot L," the large parking lot adjacent to Edor Nelson Field and Si Melby Hall. Lot L will be staffed and individuals without proper permits will be turned away. Lots will also be patrolled and non-permit-holders will be ticketed and/or towed at owner's expense.

Athletic event spectators are encouraged to park in the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview "Yellow Ramp". The entrance is located off of 23rd Avenue South, north of Riverside Avenue -- roughly a two-block walk to Si Melby Hall and the Augsburg Ice Arena. Parking will be available for $5 in the Yellow Ramp. You MUST have your game ticket stub to show to the parking attendant when you leave, in order to get the $5 parking deal. There are no in-out privileges at the Fairview lots/ramps.

There is also on-street parking available on the streets around Si Melby Hall, as well as metered parking (enforced 24 hours a day) on Riverside Avenue.

For more information, contact the Augsburg athletic department at 612-330-1249 or the Augsburg Department of Public Safety at 612-330-1717.

Ride needed to Mankato, Eden Prairie, Uptown

I need to pick up my van in Mankato next week and need a ride some evening (whenever it's repaired) either to Mankato or to Eden Prairie where I can get a ride to Mankato with a relative. If you are headed that way and could help, let me know. I think that I make good company - as chatty or silent as you would prefer.

Also, my partner needs rides to uptown every Tuesday and Thursday after class finishes at 1:20. Let me know if you'd like to carpool with her. Thanks!
