Joyce Pfaff Report on Teaching in China

You are invited to a brown bag meeting to hear Joyce Pfaff report on her experience teaching in China. She taught fall semester at Augsburg's partner institution, United International College (UIC), in Zhuhai, China. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. in the Riverside Room.

Writing Lab Now Open for Winter/Spring Terms

The Augsburg College Writing Lab is now open for Winter trimester/Spring semester. Hours for the rest of the semester are as follows:

Mondays: 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Tuesdays: 3 - 5:30 and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Wednesdays: 3 - 5:30 and 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursdays: 3 - 5:30 and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Fridays: 6 - 8 p.m.
Sundays: 5:30 - 8 p.m.

The Lab is located in Lindell Library, ground floor, to the left of the circulation desk.

A Public Forum with Dr. Anthony Arnove

"Iraq and Afghanistan: The Case for Immediate U.S. Withdrawal"

Dr. Arnove is a brilliant writer, editor and activist. He is the editor (with Howard Zinn) of "Voices of a People's History of the United States".
He is also the author of "Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal" and the editor of "Iraq Under Siege: The Deadly Impact of Sanctions and War."

Tickets On Sale Now for Eleutheria

Tickets are now on sale for Eleuthéria, written by Samuel Beckett, and guest directed by Barbra Berlovitz. This show will perform January 30th, 31st, and February 5th, 6th and 7th at 7:00 and February 1st and 8th at 3:00.

Admission will be free with the donation of a non-perishable food item or a cash donation. All food donations will be sent to the Brian Coyle Food Shelf and all cash donations will be sent to Augsburg’s Campus Kitchens.

Build Bridges, Not Fences

"Build Bridges, Not Fences" Pancake Breakfast fundraiser reminder (or harassment).

Saturday, January 24 from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. @ Waite House.

Breakfast will be a $5 minimum donation, but those who are able to give more are encouraged to do so. (Any donation beyond $5 is a tax-break!)

We will also have an art show displaying AND SELLING our youth-shot photos from Oaxaca, Mexico (last years teen delegation). So size up your home and office for new art work, and bring your check book! Also, we will be selling our official "Build Bridges, Not Fences" fair-trade t-shirts. The incredible design was created by Waite House teens, and drawn by our own Elfego Vences. I'm gonna warn you now…when you see this…you're gonna want it! They are $20, and all proceeds go to fund our social-justice youth delegation to Santa Anita, Guatemala in April.

As always, our lovely teen participants will be your servers for the morning. And you veggie-heads and vegans…we got you.

Donations will support our ongoing "Build Bridges, Not Fences" project which includes service-learning, mural and advocacy projects designed and led by Waite House youth.

Peacemaking in Colombia

Please join the Social Work Department for our 2009 Social Work Alumni Network event titled, "Peacemaking in Colombia" on Friday, February 6, 2009 from 3-5pm in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center, Augsburg College.

MSW Class of 1996 alumni Michele Braley and Nils Dybvig recently returned from two years in Colombia with Christian Peacemaker Teams. Join them as they talk about their work with community organizers resisting violence.

Employment Trends Seminar - Today

We are excited to offer an Employment Trends Seminar on Thursday, January 22nd at 6 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room, CC. Phil Gardner, Professor at Michigan State University will be leading a discussion on how to prepare for an uncertain job market. You will also hear the latest research on who's hiring and why. Phil is an expert in college labor markets! All are welcome!

Engman Writing Prize Winners

Every year a committee of English Department faculty determines the winners of the John Engman Writing Prize. This writing contest was established in memory of John Engman, Augsburg alumnus, poet, and teacher. From eighty-one submissions, these students have been selected to receive gift cards of $100 or $50 for Honorable Mention. In addition, two students were recognized with a Notice of Merit.
