This year's Opening Convocations will take place on September 2 and 6. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome and encouraged to attend all events.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the college will celebrate the beginning of the academic year for the College's traditional day students. This event is being coordinated with the Auggie Days staff and the Director of AugSem. The Opening Convocation scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 8 will recognize students in the Weekend College, United/Unity/Mercy Hospitals program, and Graduate programs. The schedule of events for both dates follows.

Schedule for Tuesday, Sept. 2:

Opening Convocation: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Faculty line-up at 10 a.m. for the academic procession outside of Foss (faculty should wear their academic regalia for this event). AugSem students will march and sit in the center section of the Chapel. There will be open seating for members of the Augsburg community who are not marching.

Picnic: 11:30 a.m.
All-campus picnic in the quad follows the Convocation. Please allow AugSem students to move through the lines first so they can leave on time for Community Service Projects.

AugSem students meet in Murphy Park to depart for Community Service Projects: 12:30 p.m.

Community Dinner: 5 - 6 p.m.
Faculty and staff are invited to join AugSem students for dinner in the quad

Schedule for Saturday, Sept. 6:

We will not have an academic procession on Sept. 6 due to time constraints; faculty do not need to wear academic regalia on this day. There will be open seating in the Chapel.

There will be a modified class schedule on Saturday, September 6:
Morning Class Sessions: 8 - 11:45 a.m. (MAL and MSW) and 8:30 - 11:45 a.m. (Weekend College, MAE, and MBA)

Got Talent?

Are you gifted? Do you have some talent to brag about? Know an Augsburg student that you’d love to see perform? Augsburg Orientation is hosting a talent/variety show where Augsburg students can show us what they’re made of.

Acts can be up to 10 minutes long and can include anything from spoken word, musical performances, dance, or anything that you happen to be great at. The performance will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 from 7 - 9 p.m. We will be providing a basic sound system. You are responsible for everything else, but let us know if there is anything additional that you will need as we may have it already.

If you are interested in performing, please email Solveig at orientat@augsburg.edu by Aug. 28 with your name, contact info, act, time needed, and equipment needs. We will be selecting acts on the Aug. 29 and will let you know that evening if you have been selected.

Welcome Weekend

The Augsburg for Adults office is organizing a "Welcome Weekend" event where we invite faculty, staff, administrators and student leaders to greet new and returning undergraduate and graduate adult students and guide them to their classes.

Our last several Welcome Weekends were very successful; as students appreciated the warmth and individual attention they received from participants. We hope to duplicate that success with your help.

For the fall trimester, we have three different shifts to choose from:

Friday, September 5, 2008: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 7:30 - 9 a.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 11 a.m. - Noon (to guide students to Convocation)

As a reminder, Opening Convocation takes place on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Noon in the Hoversten Chapel.

If you are interested in creating a welcoming atmosphere for our new and continuing students, please contact me with your shift preference at foxwilso@augsburg.edu. I will contact participants with more information.
