Security and Facilities Announcements

Security Alert: Fire in Urness Hall

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, an unknown person lit a small fire inside the east fire stair of Urness Hall. Residents called Public Safety and reported smelling smoke. DPS activated the fire alarm. Public Safety Officers located the smoldering remnants of a pillowcase and/or toilet paper inside the fire stair and doused it with a fire extinguisher. The fire stair is made of concrete and devoid of flammable materials, so this small fire did not spread.

If you have any information regarding this or other crimes at Augsburg, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety. You can reach the Department of Public Safety all day, every day by calling 612-330-1717 from an off campus phone or 1717 from an on campus phone.

You can help keep Augsburg safe!

- Assume every fire alarm is real and evacuate immediately!

- False alarms are not a joke! They build complacency and threaten the safety of others. Please report anyone tampering with fire safety equipment.

- If you see fire or smell smoke, pull the fire alarm and evacuate the building.

- Big fires start small. Had this fire been lit elsewhere in the building, the outcome could have been very different.

- Report any suspicious or unsafe activity to the Department of Public Safety.

Use them or lose them!

As we transition from Sodexho to A'viands for campus dining services, we want to communicate some changes that will affect our community. On May 31, 2008, all Sodexho gift cards, coffee cards and points on board plans will expire. Although this is unfortunate, the good news is that you have the month of May to use up anything you have left. So say thank you to someone by buying them a cup of coffee or a smoothie.
